Oak Park Crime Briefs: Armed Robbery, Basketball Court Fracas

Teens robbed at gunpoint, basketball court brawl.

Armed Robbery

Two Oak Park juveniles — one 17 and the other 16 — were robbed at gunpoint around 11:30 pm Sept. 9 when a young man between the ages of 18 and 20 confronted them in the 400 block of Thomas Street, displayed a semi-automatic long-barreled handgun and demanded all they had. The victims gave them their cell phones, an iPod and $80. The offender was last seen running north on Fair Oaks Avenue. There were no injuries. Estimated loss was $510.

Aggravated Battery

A 20-year-old sustained minor injuries Sept. 11 when he was struck in the face during a verbal altercation that started between five boys on the basketball court at , 49 W. Lake St. Police said the skateboard of a 13-year-old, who was there at the time, was broken when one of the brawlers jumped on it. The 20-year-old said his cell phone, which was on a table before the incident started, was taken. There is no indication how or if the theft is related to the incident.
