Oak Park Crime Briefs: Hair Clippers, Firewood, Potpourri Stolen

Retail Theft Arrest: A 17-year-old male from Chicago was charged March 29 with retail theft after attempting to take hair clippers from Oak Park Beauty Supply, 8 Lake St., police said. He was turned over to a parent.

Theft: As many as 50 pieces of firewood were pilfered from under the front porch of a home in the 200 block of South Scoville Avenue March 29. A witness told police that four juveniles were seen taking the items and fleeing on to southbound East Boulevard in a car. Estimated loss was $100.

Retail Theft: Nearly 40 bottles of fragrance spray and nine sachet bags were stolen March 29 when one suspect distracted an employee at Pier One Imports, 1149 Lake St., and his two associates, both females, took the items and fled through a rear door. Estimated loss was $281.50

Residential Burglary: Two designer watches were stolen March 27 while the owner of the home in the 1000 block of South Elmwood Avenue was inside. The victim told police he entered the rear door when he heard footsteps on the second floor. The victim yelled and after getting no response, heard glass break. Police said a neighbor saw two men then jump from the second floor porch of the home and flee south on Elmwood. Entry was gained through an unlocked first floor window; the watches were in the kitchen. Estimated loss was $1,500.
