Oak Park Crime Briefs: Man Threatens to Shoot Cop

Child endangerment, DUI, aggravated assault and thefts.

Aggravated DUI

Robert D. Hudson, 36, of Chicago was charged with aggravated DUI and child endangerment, police said. A witness told police that around 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 6, a man later identified as Hudson, pulled over his Ford Escort in the 1000 block of South Boulevard and fell out of the car onto the pavement.

The witness also told police a child, about 3 years of age, opened the back door and got out of the car on her own. When police arrived on the scene, they saw Hudson leaning against the vehicle, his speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol. The child was taken into protective custody and released to a family member, police said.

Aggravated Assault

Luther Bass, 32, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault Dec. 2 after twice threatening an Oak Park police officer, police said.

Police responded to a call of a suspicious person walking in the alley in the 900 block of North Taylor Avenue and saw a man matching his description walking in the 1000 block of North Austin Boulevard. An officer followed the man, identified as Bass, on North Austin Boulevard and asked him to stop, at which time Bass quickened his pace.

As he walked toward him, Bass turned twice toward the officer and threatened to beat and then to shoot him. He then was taken into custody, police said. Bass was unarmed at the time of his arrest, police said.

Theft Arrest

Jerrell L. Clyde, 20, of Cicero, was charged with theft Dec. 7 after taking a flashlight from an unlocked 2001 Oldsmobile Alero parked in the driveway of a home in the 1100 block of South Lyman Avenue, police said.

According to police, a witness waived down an officer in the 1000 block of South Austin Boulevard and told him about a suspicious person pulling on door handles of cars in the 1100 block of South Lyman. Police said they tailed a suspect matching Clyde’s description and stopped him at Jackson and Austin boulevards to question him.

They found in his possession a Smith-Wesson flashlight that the owner identified as missing from the Alero, police said.
