Oak Park Crime Briefs: Woman Grabbed, Charity Change Stolen

Battery

A man approached a woman walking in the 900 block of South Oak Park Avenue from behind, then grabbed her right shoulder and buttocks. When she turned around the suspect fled on foot. The incident took place around 8:25 am on Aug. 1.

Theft from Person

An 11-year-old from Milwaukee was charged with theft Aug. 5 after attempting to take a jar filled with $10 in change from a woman who was soliciting for a charity inside of , 259 W. Lake St.

Two other suspects who were with him were not found. The 11-year-old was turned over to the custody of his mother.

Burglary Arrest

A 16-year-old from Chicago was charged Aug. 5 with two counts of burglary, theft by possession, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrests and violating curfew, police said.

Authorities responded to the 700 block of West Garfield Avenue after receiving a call that a boy was attempting to break into a 1998 Kia Sephia parked there. Authorities arrived at the scene and found the young man who, in an attempt to avoid being caught, crawled under the car he was attempting to burglarize.

Police pulled him out from under the car and the young man began thrashing and struggling while he was resisting arrest, police said.  A GPS unit stolen sometime between Aug 4 and Aug 5 from a 1994 Jeep Cherokee parked nearby, was found in his possession, police said. He was turned over to the custody of a parent.

Armed Robbery

Approximately $120 was taken Aug. 5 when a man, wearing a bandanna to cover his face, walked into the , 6536 Roosevelt Road, displayed a semi-automatic handgun to an employee and demanded all of the money in the cash register. The suspect fled north in the east parking lot and then west in the north alley of Roosevelt. Police are continuing the investigation.
