Oak Park Police Add Patrols in Recent Robbery Areas

Police increase presence in areas of recent strong-armed robberies in Oak Park, the Wednesday Journal reports.

Oak Park police are increasing their presence in areas where two young women were robbed in the middle of the day Friday and Saturday, the Wednesday Journal reported Tuesday.

On Saturday, a man with blond hair on a BMX bike approached a woman from behind in the 1100 block of South East Avenue around 4:25 p.m., grabbed her purse and punched her in the head numerous times, police said. The offender, who was about 30-40 and 130 pounds, was last seen riding east from the scene. The total estimated loss is $110, police said.

On Friday, a woman and two men approached an Oak Park girl and forcefully took her iPhone.

The girl told police she was walking with friends in the 0-100 block of North Ridgeland Avene around 3:30 p.m. when Denise McDowell, 18, of Chicago, grabbed her iPhone while Brian Conner, 20, of Chicago, and Edmen Williams, 23, of Chicago repeatedly told the girl to, "let it go," police said.

The offenders ran toward the Ridgeland CTA station, where they were arrested. They were each processed on robbery and mob action charges, police said.

Police told the Journal they do not believe the two incidents are related.
