Oak Park Police Blotter: Handgun Stolen from Apartment

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Theft Arrest: A 17-year-old from Oak Park was charged with theft May 30 for stealing a teacher's cellphone from a desk drawer in a classroom at Oak Park-River Forest High School earlier this month, police said. A parent of brought the student in to the police station, where he was booked.

Burglary to Auto: A bag containing $10 in change was stolen sometime between May 29 and May 30 from a 2008 Infiniti SUV parked in the 00 block of Iowa Street. Estimated loss was $160.

Battery Arrest: Rodjzae Funches, 18, of Oak Park, was charged with battery May 30 for punching a 57-year-old woman in the face over a disagreement about a traffic altercation in the 200 block of North Scoville Avenue, police said. The victim was walking her dog and claimed that the car Funches was riding in nearly struck her and an argument ensued. The victim sustained a contusion to her face but refused treatment at the scene.

Burglary Arrest: Marcus D. Jones, 23, of Chicago, was charged with burglary May 30 after a female acquaintance tipped off police that he had broken into a 2002 Saturn parked in the 800 block of Ontario and walked out with what turned out to be $6 in change. The woman saw him in the car and asked if he was supposed to be there; Jones said yes. But she called police and then identified him in a photo array at the police department; he was eventually arrested in Chicago. The incident took place in mid-April, police said.

Residential Burglary: A set of golf clubs and electric tools were stolen sometime between May 25 and May 30 from a home in 500 block of South Harvey Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear door. Estimated loss was $2,700.

Theft: Two tires were stolen May 30 off a bicycle locked to a rack in the 1100 block of North Boulevard and two badly worn tires that were the wrong size were left in their place. Estimated loss was $100.

Residential Burglary: A book bag, a laptop and a 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol were stolen May 30 from an apartment in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard. Entry was gained by prying off the front door lock. The apartment was ransacked during the incident. Estimated loss was $1,450.

Burglary to Auto: Approximately 50 CDs were stolen May 29 from an unlocked 2003 Ford Expedition parked in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue. Estimated loss was $500.

Traffic Accident: Luis E. Leon, 27, of Cicero, was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident May 28 when he fled after rear ending a 2012 Honda Civic at Harlem and Pleasant avenues, police said.Police said he and an occupant ran out of the car after police stopped his truck in the 400 block of Harrison Street. Leon also was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance. He also was wanted out of Cook County for violating bail on a charge of a driving on a revoked license, police said.

Burglary: A GPS and cash were stolen May 27 from an office in the 200 block of South Marion Street. Entry was gained by breaking a 20-inch by 50-inch window in the door. Estimated loss was $535.

Theft: Two banners advertising Downtown Oak Park events were stolen May 29 from the 1100 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $600.00.

Theft: A package containing a vacuum cleaner was stolen May 30 from the common area of a building in the 600 block of South Boulevard. Estimated loss was $500.

Burglary to Auto: A wallet, hand-held game system and a vehicle television monitor were stolen May 29 from a 2002 Chevy Blazer parked in the alley of a residence in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,620.

Battery Arrest: Chanel Gise Mattox, 20, of Chicago, was charged with battery May 29 after a fight between her and a friend in the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue the previous day, police said. The victim, who was 20 and also from Chicago, told police she was punched in the upper right cheek and pushed to the ground where Mattox then slapped her in the head and face. The victim identified Mattox in a photo array, police said.

Warrant Arrest: Thyrome A. Wilder, 37, of Oak Park, was arrested on May 29 two outstanding warrants. One was out of Oak Park for forfeitting bond on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs; the other was an outstanding warrant out of Chicago for forfeitting bond on a charge of unlawful possession of cannabis, police said. He was apprehended in the 5900 block of West Erie Street in Chicago.

Unlawful Possession: James W. Huff, 24, of unincorporated DuPage County, was charged May 30 with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, police said. Huff was a passenger in a car that was stopped in the 1300 block of Austin Boulevard for an obstructed windshield. After the driver consented to a search, Huff pushed an officer and ran away. A chase ensued and an officer saw him throw away a small baggie. Huff was stopped in the 1800 block of North Austin Boulevard and the baggie, which was retrieved, contained 21 foiled packets filled with 13.9 grams of heroin.
