Oak Park Police Blotter: Railroad Trespasser, Residential Burglaries and Bike Thefts

Oak Park police reports, Aug. 6-12.

AUG. 2

Theft

A power tool and two 500-foot spools of 12-gauge copper wire were stolen from Ascension Church, 808 S. East Ave. The loss was estimated at $380.

Bike Theft

A women’s cruiser style bicycle valued at $490 was stolen from the garage of a home in the 700 block of Taylor Avenue.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

The spare time and rims were stolen from a 2008 Toyota parked in the 700 block of Highland Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,140.

AUG. 8

Theft Arrest

Gregory Binford, 55, of the 400 block of North Lawler Avenue was charged with theft after he was caught in possession of a stolen bike while in the 100 block of North Lombard Avenue, police said.

Trespass to Railroad Property

Tori Hutchins, 31, of Milwaukee, was charged with trespass to railroad property while in the 1100 block of North Boulevard in Oak Park, police said.

Criminal Damage Complaints

The front glass window of a home in the 800 block of North Harvey was shattered. Estimated damage was $1,000.

A window of the Judson Baptist Church, 1252 N. Austin Boulevard, was shattered, causing an estimated $50 in damage.

Theft

Two baby strollers valued at a combined $280 were stolen from the backyard of a home in the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, police said.

Bike Theft

An unlocked black bicycle valued at $500 was stolen from the 100 block of Thomas Street.

AUG. 9

Bike Theft

A BMX bike locked to a rack in the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue was stolen. Estimated loss was $50.

AUG. 10

Recovered Stolen SUV

A silver 2006 Jeep Cherokee stolen in Oak Park Aug. 4 was recovered in the 2800 block of Walnut Avenue in Chicago.

Residential Burglary

An iPhone, credit and debit cards were stolen from a home in the 900 block of North East Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked basement door.

Theft

A purse containing prescription drugs, a Gucci wallet and various gift cards and IDs was stolen from a River Forest resident the 500 block of Garfield Street.

Criminal Trespass

A Chicago juvenile was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle after he was spotted entering and exiting a car parked in the 1110 block of North Taylor Avenue, police said.

Retail Theft

Dominick Wellington, 25, of the 900 block of North Boulevard, was charged with retail theft after he was caught stealing from Dominick’s Finer Foods, 259 Lake St., police said.

Thefts

Police are searching for a pair of women they say worked together to steal the wallet from the purse of a patron of a restaurant in the 1100 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $250.

A men’s mountain bike valued at $50 was stolen from the back yard of a 1100 block of South Grove Avenue, the same location where an offender discarded a different bicycle.

A men’s wallet was stolen from a locked locker inside the West Cook YMCA, 255 S. Marion St. Estimated loss was $28.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A GPS navigation unit and $3 in change were stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 700 block of South Grove Avenue.

Residential Burglary

Two flat-screen televisions and three laptop computers were stolen during a break-in to a home in the 100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained by smashing a brick through the home’s rear sliding-glass door. Damage and loss were estimated at $4,400.00.

AUG. 11

Burglary

Cigarettes and lottery tickets were stolen from a business in the 400 block of Austin Boulevard.

Theft

A wallet containing cash, and debit and credit cards was swiped from a customer’s purse at The Buzz Café, 905 S. Lombard Ave.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

An iPod Shuffle and earphones were stolen from a car parked in a garage in the 800 block of Clarence Avenue.

Criminal Damage

A Dumpster and plastic can were set ablaze in the 1100 block of South Grove Avenue.

Theft

Delivery merchandise valued at a combined $80 was stolen from the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of North East Avenue.

AUG. 12

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

A white Ford van reported stolen out of Oak Park in May was recovered in the 7800 block of New England Avenue in Burbank.

Battery

Suzana Balciunas, 50, of the 1100 block of North Harlem Avenue, was charged with battery after turning herself into the Oak Park Police Department after she was identified as the offender in an Aug. 11 battery, police said.

Bike Thefts

A bicycle locked to a poll in the 300 block of Washington Boulevard was stolen. Estimated loss was $700.

A pink girl’s bicycle and grey men’s bicycle were stolen from the back yard of a home in the 600 block of North Taylor Avenue.

Retail Theft Arrest

Shawn Davis, 38, of the 3800 block of West Monroe Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was caught stealing from CVS Pharmacy, 345 Madison St., police said.

Theft

A set of house keys and a debit card were stolen from a locker inside the West Cook YMCA, 255 S. Marion St. Police believe a bolt cutter was used to cut the lock.

Aggravated Assault Arrest

Sandra Dunbar, 25, of the 800 block of North Austin Boulevard in Oak Park, was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct after an incident in the 800 block of South Maple Avenue, police said.
