Robber loses chase with police, bike thefts and more

The following items are taken from the  daily summary reports for July 11-July 15. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Robbery:  Approximately $25 was stolen July 15 when two men pushed a man to the ground, struck him and then one took the cash from the victim’s wallet. The subjects fled in an unknown direction. The victim was on the Metra train platform at 1100 North Boulevard.

 Burglary to Auto:  A radar detector was taken July 14 from the front windshield of a 1987 BMW 325i parked in the 1200 block of Linden Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the driver’s side front door window. Estimated loss was $650.

 Retail Theft:  Kenyatta Cage, 38, of Chicago was charged July 14 with felony retail theft after attempting to take $100 worth of hygiene products from , 6412 Roosevelt Rd., police said.

Residential Burglary:  An X-Box game console, cords, controller, five games and a Dell laptop belonging to were taken July 14 from a home in the 1100 block of North Austin Boulevard. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear or basement door. Estimated loss was not available.

Theft:  A locked bicycle secured to a rack in the 900 block of South Lombard Avenue was taken on July 14. The cable lock was left at the scene. Estimated loss was $565.

Theft:  A 24-speed locked bicycle secured to the fence in the 500 block of Lake Street was stolen July 14. Estimated loss was $200.

Burglary:  Several feet of copper piping, three totes, a baby crib and an aluminum ladder were taken sometime between July 12 and July 14 from a home in the 900 block of North Humphrey Avenue.  No estimated loss was given.

Burglary:  A 21-speed bicycle was taken sometime between July 13 and July 14 from a garage of a home in the 1000 block of Woodbine Avenue.  Entry was gained by using a pry type tool to break the lock on the service door. Estimated loss was $250.

Burglary to Auto:  A GPS unit, phone charger and change were taken sometime between July 13 and July 14 from an unlocked 1999 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 1000 block of Woodbine Avenue. Estimated loss was $230.

Criminal Damage:  The windshield and rear driver’s side window were broken on a 2003 Jeep Liberty parked in the 800 block of Gunderson Avenue sometime between July 13 and July 14. Estimated loss was $250.

Theft:  A road bicycle secured to the porch of a home in the 200 block of South Humphrey Avenue was stolen sometime between July 13 and July 14.  Estimated loss was $100.

Theft:  An unlocked and unattended 26-inch men’s bicycle was stolen July 13 from the open front porch of a home in the 600 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $200.

Theft Arrest:  A 13-year-old male from Chicago was charged July 13 with theft for taking a bicycle from the 500 block of North Cuyler Avenue around noon, police said.  The arrest took place nearly a half-hour later in the area of Mayfield Avenue and Erie Street in Chicago. He was turned over to a parent.

Burglary Arrest:  A 14-year-old from Chicago was charged with burglary July 13 with taking a cell phone from an office building in the 400 block of North Harlem Avenue, police said. The juvenile was arrested shortly afterward in the 100 block of North Harlem Avenue. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center, 1100 S. Hamilton Avenue, Chicago.

Aggravated Battery Arrest:  Terrell Carter, 20, of Chicago, was charged July 13 with aggravated battery to a police officer and robbery after taking a purse from woman in the 100 block of Harrison Street in a domestic-related incident, police said. After attempting to elude police by taking a Blue Line westbound train, pushing a police officer and then running across both directions of traffic of the Eisenhower Expressway, Carter was apprehended underneath the East Avenue overpass at the I-290, police said.

Burglary to Garage:  A gas powered lawn mower, three sets of golf clubs and three folding chairs were taken July 12 from the garage of a home in the 1000 block of Elmwood Avenue.  Police speculate that either the side service door was unlocked or the overhead door was open. Estimated loss was $795.

Residential Burglary:  A video game system and a laptop computer were taken July 12 from a home in the 300 block of North Austin.  Entry to the residence was unknown. Estimated loss was $1,000.

Attempted Robbery:  An iPod was almost taken July 12 when two teens approached another walking in the 500 block of Carpenter Avenue and demanded to see the item. The victim ran southbound on Carpenter for about half a block followed by the two offenders, who then got into a Ford and drove westbound on Adams.

Robbery:  Approximately $1,000 and a cell phone were taken July 12 when after two offenders approached a victim from behind, one struck him on the right side of the face and the other took the victim’s backpack. The incident took place in the 300 block of North Scoville Avenue.

Theft:  A 15-speed bicycle and helmet were taken from the locked yard of a home in the 100 block of North Elmwood Avenue sometime between July 6 and July 12. Estimated loss was $160.

Theft:  Approximately 55 pairs of shoes contained in two boxes were stolen sometime between July 10 and July 12 from the laundry storage common area of a building in the 100 block of North Elmwood Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,200.

Criminal Damage:  Three windows of storefronts in the 100 block of North Humphrey were shot out with BB pellets sometime between July 11 and July 12.  Estimated damage was $1,500.

Theft:  An unsecured bicycle was taken July 11 from a home in the 800 block of Hayes Avenue. Estimated loss was $50.

Theft:  A locked mountain bicycle secured to a rack in the 300 block of South Boulevard was taken July 11. Estimated loss was $130.

Theft:  A bicycle was stolen sometime between July 9 and July 11 from the rear enclosed porch of a home in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard.  A witness saw an offender leave the rear of the building and then take off northbound on the victim’s bicycle.  Estimated loss was $350.

Burglary to Garage:  A bicycle was taken sometime between July 6 and July 11 from the garage of a home in the 900 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $50.

Theft from Car:  A registration sticker was taken sometime between July 9 and July 11 from a 2002 Toyota Sequoia parked in the 100 block of Harrison Street.

Burglary to Garage:  Four bicycles, two bicycle helmets, three razor scooters, an electric mower, hedge trimmer, jumper cables and a battery charger were taken sometime between July 9 and July 10 from the garage of a home in the 500 block of North Harvey Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,774.

Theft:  A locked 26-inch mountain bike secured to a rack in the 300 block of South Boulevard was taken July 11. Estimated loss was $100.
