Oak Park Police Blotter: Chicago Man Charged with Stealing Toothpaste and Cookies

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Burglary to Auto: The interior of a 1998 Toyota Camry parked in the 1100 block of North Austin Boulevard was ransacked sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 but nothing was taken.

Burglary to Auto: Chargers from an iPod, iPhone and a cigarette lighter, jumper cables, CDs and DVDs were stolen sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 from an unlocked 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser parked in the 1000 block of North Austin Boulevard. Estimated loss was $385.

Theft from Auto: A catalytic converter was cut sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 from underneath a 2004 Lexus RX 300 parked in the garage at West Suburban Medical Center, 3 Erie Ct. Estimated loss was $200.

Theft: A parking meter and mounting pipe owned by the village were stolen sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 from the 900 block of South Lombard Avenue. Estimated loss was $890.

Theft from Person: A 16-year-old Chicago resident was charged with theft from person Feb. 16 for swiping an iPhone from the hand of a 45-year-old man as he was using it late last month, police said. The theft took place as the victim was leaving a dry cleaners in the 0-100 block of Chicago Avenue. The teen was apprehended in the 5800 block of West Superior Street

Residential Burglary: The basement level window of a home in the 200 block of South Grove Avenue was broken Feb. 16, setting of an alarm. Estimated damage was $50.

Harassment by Telephone: Robert Harps, 59, of Chicago, was charged with harassment by telephone Feb. 17 as part of an ongoing domestic dispute in Oak Park, police said. He was apprehended in the 5900 block of Superior Street in Chicago.

Theft: A delivery package containing a white dresser was taken Feb. 14 from the common area vestibule of a building in the 300 block of South Oak Park Avenue. Estimated loss was $240.

Retail Theft: Myron Mack, 46, of Forest Park, was charged Feb. 14 with felony retail theft for attempting to take nine tubes of toothpaste, cookies and gum from Walgreens, 916 Madison St., police said. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when police found a crack pipe in his possession.

Retail Theft: A 16-year-old male from Chicago was charged with retail theft Feb. 15 after he attempted to take a $20 jacket from CVS, 345 Madison St., police said.

Burglary: A digital camera was stolen sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 from a 1999 Toyota Camry parked in the garage of a home in the 700 block of Woodbine Avenue. Once entry was gained to the garage through a closed, but unlocked, side service door, a golf club was used club to break out the front driver’s side window. Estimated loss was $300.

Burglary: A bicycle was stolen sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 from the garage of a home in the 600 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated loss was $300.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit and a box of designer perfume were stolen sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 from an unlocked 2007 Audi A4 parked in the garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Oak Park Avenue. Entry was gained by prying off the lock on the side service door.

Burglary: Approximately $1,400 in cash, a computer and monitor were stolen sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 from Nail Spa 2, 244 Chicago Ave. The estimated loss was $2,200.

Retail Theft: James B. Lucius, 44, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft Feb. 14 after he attempted to take eight containers of baby formula, valued at $200, from Dominick’s Finer Foods, 200 Lake St., police said.

Possession: Jorey Shallcross, 24, of Bolingbrook, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia Feb. 13 after an officer, who had smelled a strong odor of burning cannabis from Shalcross’s car, found a glass pipe containing marijuana and six tinfoil packets of heroin, police said. The arrest took place in a lot in the 6400 block of Roosevelt Road.

Retail Theft: Alfanzo A. Myers, 19, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft Feb. 13 after he attempted to take a shirt and pants totaling $60 from Old Navy, 417 N. Harlem Ave., police said.
