Oak Park Police Blotter: Car Smoke-Bombed

Fireworks wreak more havoc, bike thefts and more reported.

The following items are taken from daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Residential Burglary: A computer, printer, electronic tools and keys to a 2004 Nissan Frontier were taken sometime between July 6 and July 7 from a home in the 500 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Entry was gained through a closed but unlocked basement door. Estimated loss was $10,068.

Theft: A 24-inch bicycle, secured to a rack in the 500 block of Lake Street, was stolen July 6. Estimated loss was $280.

Criminal Damage Arrest: A 14-year-old male from Oak Park was charged July 7 with criminal damage after scratching the paint on a 2002 Dodge Ram and a 2002 Honda Accord earlier in the day, police said. Both vehicles were parked in the 600 block of Erie Street. The arrest took place near , 201 N. Scoville Avenue. The teenager was released to the custody of a parent.

Theft Arrest: A 14-year-old male from Oak Park was charged July 7 with taking a scooter the previous day, police said. The theft occurred in the 300 block of North East Avenue; the arrest took place near . The teenager was released to the custody of a parent.

Theft: A bicycle secured to the rack at the train station, 1000 block of North Boulevard, was stolen July 6. The cable and lock were left behind. Estimated loss was $300.

Criminal Damage: The rear windshield wiper assembly on a 2011 Chevrolet HHR was broken off sometime between July 6 and July 7. Estimated loss was $50.

Burglary to Auto: A purse, two cameras, a cellular phone, driver’s license, credit cards and $160 were taken July 7 from the front seat of an unlocked 2006 Toyota Sienna parked in the 1000 block of North Harvey Avenue. Estimated loss was $545.

Theft Arrest: A 16-year-old male from Cicero was charged with theft July 7 when he was found in possession of a bicycle that was taken July 3 from the 900 block of South Lombard Avenue, police said. The juvenile was released to the custody of his mother.

Criminal Damage: The rear window of a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo parked in the 900 block of North Lombard Avenue was broken sometime between July 6 and July 7. Estimated damage was $350.

Criminal Damage: The passenger side floor mat of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was burned after a smoke bomb was tossed into the passenger side on July 7. Offenders broke the passenger side window on the vehicle, which was parked in the 700 block of Gunderson Avenue. Estimated damage was $300.

Retail Theft: Marie Sanders, 50, of Chicago was charged July 7 with retail theft after attempting to take green and red grapes from , 259 Lake St., police said.

Theft: An unlocked and unattended boy’s bicycle was taken July 7 from the baseball field at , 415 Lake St. Estimated loss was $200.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed sometime between July 6 and July 7 from a 2008 Hyundai Sonata parked in the 1000 block of North Grove. Estimated loss was $50.

Theft from Person: Approximately $85 was taken July 5 from the front-left pants pocket of a person leaving the Lake Theater, 1022 Lake St.

Burglary to Auto: A speaker and an amplifier were taken sometime between July 5 and July 6 from a 1999 Nissan Sentra parked in the 800 block of South Maple Avenue. The estimated loss was $200.

Burglary to Garage: A power drill, accessories, hammer and several screwdrivers were taken sometime between July 5 and July 6 from the garage of a home in the 700 block of Lyman Avenue. Entry was gained by cutting a screen to an open window. The estimated loss was $170.

Theft: A lawnmower was taken sometime between July 1 and July 6 from the rear yard of a home in the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue. Estimated loss was $400.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS, pulse oximeter and $5 were taken sometime between July 5 and July 6 from a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander parked in the 300 block of South Taylor Avenue. Entry to the vehicle was unknown. Estimated loss was $265.

Theft: A locked 18-speed men’s bicycle secured to a rack at the train station in the 1000 block of North Boulevard was stolen on July 6. Estimated loss was $200.

Burglary to Auto: Two power drills were stolen July 6 from a 2006 Chevy van parked in the 100 block of South Grove Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the rear door window. Estimated loss was $900.

Theft: A locked men’s bicycle secured to a rack at the train station in the 1000 block of North Boulevard was stolen July 6. Estimated loss was $120.

Theft: A locked men’s bicycle secured to a rack at the train station in the 1000 block of North Boulevard was stolen July 6. Estimated loss was $310.

Disorderly Conduct: The front side of a home in the 900 block of North East Avenue was egged July 7.

Criminal Damage: The glass pane of the front door of a home in the 800 block of Madison Street was broken July 5. Estimated loss was $300.

Auto Theft: A 2008 Dodge Caravan parked in the 1100 block of Lyman Avenue was stolen July 6. Estimated loss was $24,000.

Leaving the Scene of Accident: Anthony R. Sanders, 32, of Chicago, was charged July 6 with leaving the scene of an accident, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving without a valid license after an accident in the 0-100 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Ashley M. Fester-Brown, 18, of Oak Park, was charged July 6 with domestic battery, criminal damage to property and interfering with an arrest after an incident in the 1200 block of Hayes Avenue, police said.

Burglary to Auto: The interior of a 2007 Hyundai Elantra was ransacked sometime between July 4 and July 5 but nothing was taken. Entry to the car, parked in the rear of a residence in the 1000 block of North Austin Boulevard, was gained by breaking a window with a brick. Estimated damage was $200.

Auto Theft: A leased 2011 Ford Focus, unlocked with the key in the ignition, was stolen July 4 from the rear of a home in the 100 block of South Harvey Avenue. Estimated loss was $12,000.

Auto Theft: A 2008 Acura TL was taken sometime between June 20 and July 4 from the third floor level of the Holley Court Garage, Marion and Ontario streets. Estimated loss was $30,000.

Theft: A cell phone was taken from a pool bag July 5 at , 415 Lake St. Estimated loss was $500.

Theft: A 10-speed bicycle secured at a rack in the 900 block of Lombard Avenue was taken July 3. Estimated loss was $75.

Burglary Arrest: Lewis Lee, 54, of Oak Park, was charged July 5 with taking a bicycle from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Euclid Avenue, police said. The arrest took place in the 1000 block of South Euclid Avenue approximately 10 minutes after the incident, police said.

Criminal Trespass to Property: Bryan Blumberg, 50, of Melrose Park, was charged July 5 with criminal trespass to property in connection with a domestic dispute in the 1000 block of North Harlem Avenue, police said.
