Oak Park Police Blotter: Cyclist Arrested on Drug Warrant

Pain reliever swiped, more bicycles snatched.

The following items are taken from  daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft: A Social Security card and birth certificate were taken sometime between Aug. 31 and Sept. 7 from a resident room at the , 255 S. Marion St. There was no monetary loss.

Theft: Twenty-three newspapers were taken from outside of the front door of , 136 N. Oak Park Ave. Estimated loss was $18.

Burglary: Two bicycles, one with an attached baby seat, were taken sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 7 from the basement storage area of an apartment in the 0-100 block of Harrison Street. Estimated loss was $370.

Residential Burglary: A camera was stolen Sept. 5 from a home in the 700 block of Highland Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the rear door and reaching in to unlock it. Estimated loss was $240.

Outside Warrant: Keia N. Shirley, 40, of Chicago, was charged Sept. 7 for disobeying a stop sign and driving on a suspended license, police said. She also was arrested for failure to appear in court on a traffic warrant out of DuPage County.

Retail Theft: Four large boxes of pain reliever were stolen Sept. 7 when a man walked into , 345 Madison St., put the items in his pants pocket and left the store, setting off the security sensor alarm. He was seen driving east on Madison in a Nissan pick-up truck; the partial plate is IL 29986. The estimated loss was $59.96.

Theft: A leaf bagger, ladder and a battery charger were taken Sept. 7 from the garage of a home in the 100 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Access was gained through an open overhead door. Estimated loss was $580.

Theft: A locked BMX style bicycle was taken Sept. 7 from a rack in the 300 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $230.

Theft: A locked 26-inch girls’ bicycle was stolen sometime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 7 from outside of the tennis courts at , 201 N. Scoville Ave. A helmet and basket attached to the rear of the bicycle were also taken. Estimated loss was $295.

Outside Warrant: Raymond B. Wicks, 49, of Chicago, was arrested Sept. 7 for obstructing identification, police said. Police stopped Wicks in the 400 block of North Oak Park Avenue for riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. During questioning, he failed to give his correct name, and officers later found he was wanted on active Cook County warrant for failing to appear on a drug possession charge. He also was cited on a local ordinance for riding his bicycle on a sidewalk.

Outside Warrant: Slawomir L Hawryla, 24, of Chicago, was arrested Sept. 6 for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and driving on a revoked license, police said. An officer on routine patrol saw Hawryla fail to stop for a pedestrian at Van Buren Street and Oak Park Avenue. Officers also found he was wanted on outstanding warrant out of McHenry County for battery, police said.

Burglary: A wallet containing credit and identification cards and keys was taken Sept. 6 from a 2000 Chevrolet Impala parked in the garage of a home in the 1000 block of Wesley Avenue. Entry was gained through an open overhead door; the car was ransacked. Estimated loss was $50.

Harassment by Phone: Donald L. Hoffenkamp, 53, of New Lenox, was charged Sept. 7 with harassment by telephone in a domestic-related dispute that took place on Aug. 17, police said. Officers arrested Hoffenkamp after a court proceeding at the Richard J. Daley Center, 50 W. Washington St. in Chicago.

Criminal Damage: A six-foot section of chain link fencing was damaged sometime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 6 when it was pulled off the setting posts of a business in the 6500 block of Roosevelt Road. Estimated damage was $300.

Theft: An unlocked men’s 26-inch bicycle was taken from in front of a business in the 6100 block of North Avenue. Estimated loss was $200.
