Oak Park Police Blotter: Drive-By Purse Snatching

Pain relief items swiped, more residential burglaries.

The following items are taken fromdaily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft: A flag and flag pole were taken Aug. 25 from the front of a home in the 900 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated loss was $40.

Burglary: A men’s bike, a game station and five games were taken sometime between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 from the garage of a home in the 1000 block of South Taylor Avenue. The overhead door was open at the time of the incident. Estimated loss was $880.

Warrant Arrest: Jose Enriquez, 38, of Chicago, was arrested Aug. 26 on an outstanding warrant for drunken driving out of DuPage County, police said. He was apprehended in the 300 block of West Lake Street.

Warrant Arrest: Harold Hamilton, 20, of Oak Park, was arrested Aug. 26 on an outstanding warrant out of Cook County for possession of cannabis, police said. Authorities said Hamilton violated the terms of his released and the County issued a warrant. He was arrested in the 400 block of Ontario Street.

Retail Theft: Elliott K. Arnold, 46, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 25 with felony retail theft after he attempted to take sunglasses from , 6412 W. Roosevelt Rd., police said. Bath items were also found in his possession but authorities haven't determined of those items were stolen.

Battery Arrest: Ted Niedzielak, 46, of Chicago, turned himself into police Aug. 26 in connection with an incident last month when he punched a security guard as he was leaving the emergency room at West Suburban Medical Center, 3 Erie Ct., police said.

Retail Theft: Pain reliever and cold medicine were taken Aug. 26 from a shelf at , 259 W. Lake St. Police said the suspect was seen on surveillance putting the items in his pockets and then leaving the store.

Residential Burglary: Three computers, two cameras, a computer bag and jewelry were taken Aug. 26 from a home in the 600 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Entry was gained by using half-inch pry tool to open the rear basement door. Estimated loss was $1,840.

Theft from Person: A purse was stolen when a male in a slow moving car approached a woman in the parking lot at , 259 W. Lake St. and pulled the item from her right arm. The estimated loss was $204.

Battery Arrest: Fernando Razzino, 39, of Oak Park, was charged Aug. 26 with battery when he pushed a police officer who was questioning him about why he was in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of South Elmwood Avenue, police said. Authorities said Razzino appeared to be intoxicated and belligerent at the time of his arrest.

Marijuana Possession: Joshua Jenkins, 19, of Oak Park, was charged Aug. 27 with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and some minor traffic offenses after an Aug. 27 traffic stop in the 800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, police said.

Burglary: A paint sprayer, tool box with electrical tools, weed whacker and a power washer were taken sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 from a freight storage container at the rear of a business in the 6400 block of North Avenue. Entry was gained by cutting locks securing the container where the items were kept. Estimated loss was $3620.  

Domestic Battery: Yocimar Pastrana, 31, of Oak Park, was charged Aug. 27 with domestic battery, unlawful interference with the reporting of a domestic battery and criminal damage to property, police said. The arrest took place in the 6100 block of Lake Street.

Outside Warrant: Tynesha Brewer, 29, of Chicago, was arrested Aug. 27 on an outstanding warrant from Lombard for failing to appear in the court on a battery charge, police said. She was picked up in the 400 block of South Lombard Avenue, police said.

Retail Theft: Two men walked out of Jewel-Osco, , Aug. 27 with an unknown number of bottles of liquor in two backpacks.

Theft: A mountain bicycle was taken Aug. 27 from the rear yard of a home in the 900 block of North Harvey Avenue. Estimated loss was $300.

Outside Warrant: Luis Santiago, 41, of Chicago, was arrested Aug. 27 on an active warrant for violating parole after he was spotted riding a purple bicycle believed to be stolen, police said.

Outside Warrant: Tyrone Wideman, Jr., 32, of Oak Park, was arrested on Aug. 28 on an outstanding warrant for violating his conditional release for DUI, police said. His arrest took place in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard.

Criminal Damage: Patio chairs and cinder blocks were thrown into , 515 W. Garfield Ave. and a post was defaced with white paint sometime between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28. Entry was gained by forcing open a chain link fence after clamps securing the fence were cut. Estimated damage was $400.

Residential Burglary: A computer and a piece of a stained glass window were stolen sometime between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28 from a home in the 400 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained by shattering a glass window. Estimated loss and damage were $6,000.

Burglary to Garage: A lawnmower was taken sometime between Aug. 24 and Aug. 28 from the garage of a home in the 1200 block of Forest Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked side service door. Estimated loss was $140.

Criminal Damage: The locking mechanism and exterior iron gate were damaged Aug. 28 on a building in the 600 block of South Boulevard. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

Residential Burglary: A game console, games, coins, a computer, two plastic toy guns, a digital camera and other items were taken Aug. 28 from an apartment in the 0-100 block of Harrison Street. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear window of the apartment. Estimated loss was $325.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit was taken Aug. 28 from a 2007 Volvo XC90 parked in the 800 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $220.

Theft: A BMX bicycle was taken Aug. 28 from the rear yard of a home in the 700 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.
