Oak Park Police Blotter: Drug Suspect's Car Rolls into Gas Station Office

Burglar turns himself in to police; three thefts at OPRF.

The following items are taken from the daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary to Garage: An assortment of construction power tools were stolen sometime between Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of Wenonah Avenue. Entry was gained through an open overhead door. Two vehicles also were ransacked but nothing was taken. Estimated loss was $3,000.

Burglary to Garage: An iPhone car charger and several swimming medals were taken sometime between Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 from an unlocked 2006 Honda Odyssey parked in the garage of a home in the 800 block of Clinton Avenue. Entry to the garage was gained through an open overhead door. The interior of the auto also was ransacked. Estimated loss was $25.

Burglary to Auto: A car stereo was removed sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 9 from the dashboard of a 1998 Chevrolet Astro van parked in a village-owned lot in the 6700 block of Roosevelt Road. Entry was gained by breaking the front passenger side window. Damage and loss were estimated at $210.

Burglary to Garage: A car stereo and a GPS unit were stolen sometime between Oct. 9 and Oct. 11 from a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe parked in the garage of a home in the 400 block of North Lombard. Entry to the garage was gained by breaking the lock on the side service door and then smashing the front driver’s side window. Estimated damage and loss were $650.

Burglary to Garage: A 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was stolen sometime between Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 from the garage of a home in the 800 block of Gunderson Avenue. Estimated loss was $3,500.

Warrant Arrest: Bob E. Larde, 19, of Chicago, on Oct. 11 turned himself in to Oak Park police on an active warrant out of Chicago for marijuana possession, police said.

Burglary Arrest: Alphonso Turner, 47, of Chicago, on Oct. 10 turned himself in to police in connection with two garage break-ins that took place a day apart, police said. In the first, which was unreported, police said Turner stole a bicycle from the garage of a home in the 300 block of Oak Park Avenue around 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 and an electric lawnmower from the garage of a home in the 1400 block of Harlem Avenue around 7 p.m. on Oct. 8, police said.

Warrant Arrest: Christyn A. Martin, 23, of Maywood, was arrested Oct. 11 on an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County for theft, police said. He was picked up in the 7100 block of Roosevelt Road.

Warrant Arrest: Andrew L. Smith, 22, of Oak Park, was arrested Oct. 11 on an active warrant out of Lombard for unlawful possession of alcohol, police said. He was apprehended in the 600 block of South Humphrey Avenue.

Burglary: A burglary was averted to a home in the 700 block of Marion Street Oct. 12 when the owner screamed at an offender who was seen near the garage side service door. The suspect fled down the driveway.

Burglary to Auto: Approximately $10 in change was taken Oct. 12 from the center console of a 2004 Toyota Camry parked in the 300 block of South Euclid Avenue. Entry was gained through the open front driver side window.

Theft: Two locked bicycles were stolen Oct. 11 from a rack near the CTA Green Line station in the 1000 block of South Boulevard. Estimated loss was $1,000.

Criminal Damage: The front windshield of a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, parked in the 600 block of South Scoville Avenue, was shot out with a BB pellet sometime between Sept. 25 and Oct. 9. Estimated damage was $400.

DUI Arrest: Krzystof Wasilewski, 31, of Arlington Heights, was charged Oct. 10 with driving under the influence of drugs, police said. A witness told police that the car Wasilewski was driving was sitting at a pump at the , 330 Chicago Ave. and moments later saw the car roll into the gas station office. After arriving at the scene, police found Wasilewski unresponsive behind the wheel and broke a window to get him out. A fire department ambulance took him to , where narcotics were found in his system.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Alex Sainz, 24, of Park Ridge, was charged Oct. 10 with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes, police said. Police said officers approached Sainz, who seated in his car in the 100 block of South Scoville Avenue, to speak with him about the expired registration on his vehicle when they saw paraphernalia, commonly used to ingest drugs, in plain view.

DUI Arrest: Jeffrey Davis, 31, of Oak Park, was charged with drunken driving after an Oct. 11 traffic stop near Madison Street, police said.

Theft: A bicycle locked to a rack at , 201 N. Scoville Ave., was stolen Oct. 6. Unknown means were used to cut the cable. Estimated loss was $250.

Theft: A cell phone was stolen Sept. 23 from the locked locker of a student of Oak Park-River Forest High School. Estimated loss was $630.

Theft: A wallet containing a driver’s license, $22, an iPod and house keys were stolen Oct. 7 from a student at Oak Park-River Forest High School. Estimated loss was $152.

Criminal Damage: A rock was thrown at a home in the 800 block of Hayes Avenue on Oct. 1, breaking a first-floor window.

Burglary to Auto: An iPod was stolen sometime between Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 from the center console of a 2009 Honda CRV parked in the 800 block of North Lombard Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.

Theft: An iron bench chained to a cinder block was stolen Oct. 7 from the rear yard of a home in the 800 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $150.

Theft: An 8-foot piece of aluminum gutter was stolen from the garage of a home in the 1100 block Lyman Avenue. A witness saw the item being placed in the bed of a blue pick-up. Estimated loss was $150.

Burglary: A GPS unit was stolen sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 from a 2012 Kia Soul parked in the garage of a home in the 700 block of Lyman Avenue. Entry to the garage was gained through a closed, but unlocked, side service door. A ¼-inch pry tool was used to get into the car. Estimated damage and loss were $290.

Theft: An unattended iPhone and a driver’s license were stolen Oct. 8 from the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of South Lombard Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.

Drug Charge: Matthew J. Myers, 33, of Prospect Heights, was charged Oct. 8 with possession of a controlled substance, police said. A witness called police, advising them a male had been seen shooting up in a silver vehicle parked in the 100 block of Madison Street. Police saw a vehicle matching the description and found a man, later identified as Myers, pouring a white powdery substance from a clear plastic baggie into a syringe. The white substance field tested positive for heroin; approximately 3.4 grams of the drug were recovered from the scene.

Theft: A patio furniture set was taken from the gated rear yard of a home in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue. Estimated loss was $500.

Possession, Traffic: Raymond Trotter, 57, of Chicago, was charged Oct. 8 with possession of a controlled substance and traffic offenses after a stop in the 6000 block of North Avenue, police said. During a search, police found six small plastic baggies containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for heroin. He also was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving with expired registration and driving without insurance, police said.

Criminal Damage: A BB pellet damaged the outer pane of glass in a home in the 800 block of Columbian Avenue sometime between Oct. 6 and Oct. 8. Estimated damage was $200.

Theft: A cell phone, $2 and a pair of prescription eyeglasses were taken Oct. 8 from a baseball cap left on the playground at , 715 N Harvey Ave. The victim’s bicycle also was stolen. Total loss was estimated at $402.

Domestic Battery: Bryan Blumberg, 50, of Melrose Park, was charged Oct. 8 with domestic battery, police said. His apprehension took place in the 1000 block of North Harlem Avenue.

Theft from Auto: A bike rack was taken sometime between Oct. 2 and Oct. 6 from the hood of a 2007 Hyundai Entourage parked in the 600 block of South Elmwood Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,300.

Burglary: An iPhone, an iPod and a GPS unit were stolen sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 9 from an unlocked 2008 Honda Civic parked in the garage of a home in the 1000 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked side service door. Estimated loss was $700.

Theft: A Trek 820 bicycle was stolen Oct. 9 from the garage of a home in the 400 block of North Cuyler Avenue. Entry was gained through an open overhead door. Estimated loss was $100.

Theft from Auto: A catalytic converter was removed sometime between Sept. 30 and Oct. 3 from underneath a 2003 Honda Element parked in the rear of a building in the 300 block of Harrison Street. Estimated loss was $2,000.

Criminal Damage: A fire on Oct. 10 caused damage and numerous burn marks to a wooden fence at the playground of Maple Park, 1100 block of Harvard Street.
