Oak Park Police Blotter: Repeat Offender for DUI Arrested Again

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Theft: A black bag containing two watches was taken March 22 from under a desk in a common area at Longfellow Center. Estimated loss was $215.

Theft: Two 6-foot sections of aluminum downspout were taken sometime between March 16 and March 23 from the garage in the rear of a home in the 800 block of North Taylor Avenue.

Theft Arrest: Timothy Washington, 46, of Chicago, was charged with theft March 22 after a police officer saw him take a bicycle that had been locked to a fence of a home in the 900 block of South Lombard Avenue, police said.

Retail Theft Arrest: Marlene Kurilla, 56, of Oak Park, was charged with retail theft March 23 after she hid a bottle of water, magazines, fruit, potato chips and two bottles in a cloth bag and attempted to leave Dominick’s Finer Foods, 259 Lake St., without paying for the items, police said. Estimated loss was $67.93.

Retail Theft Arrest: A 17-year-old from Chicago was charged with retail theft March 23 for attempting to take a set of hair clippers and replacement blades from Queen’s Beauty Supply, 14 Madison St., police said Estimated value of the merchandise was $65.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit was stolen sometime between March 23 and March 24 from a 2007 Saturn VUE parked in the 1100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the passenger side front window. Estimated loss was $400.

Criminal Damage: The passenger side doors were scratched March 23 on a 2003 Honda parked in the 500 block of Washington Boulevard. Estimated damage was $500.

Theft: A wallet containing cash, miscellaneous ID and credit cards was stolen March 23 from the open backpack of a rider who was exiting the CTA Green Line station at Harlem Avenue. Estimated loss was $85.

Theft Arrest: Anthony Thomas, 26, of Oak Park, was charged with theft March 23 after a routine traffic stop in the 700 block of South Boulevard revealed he was in possession of a wallet that was lost or stolen two years ago, police said.

Retail Theft Arrests: Nikita Brooks, 25, and Jerrica Jordan, 18, both of Chicago, were each charged with retail theft March 24 after they attempted to take clothing from Old Navy, 417 Harlem Ave., police said. Police arrived at the store after an employee told police she followed suspicious persons who were concealing items inside of their bags. They exited adjoining fitting rooms and attempted to leave the store with purses that were bulging with clothing, police said. Brooks had items totaling $404; Jordan’s items were valued at $187.  

Residential Burglary: Two laptops, a wallet containing cash and credit cards and a set of keys were stolen March 24 from an unlocked apartment in the 100 block of Forest Place. Entry was gained through an unlocked front door. Estimated loss was $2,600.

Retail Theft and Theft Arrests: Pierre Gibson, 47, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of retail theft and one count of theft March 24 after he had taken two memory cards from the AT&T Store, 425 N. Harlem Ave., and attempted to take two sets of headphones from the Sprint Wireless store, 1142 Lake St., police said. He was apprehended after attempting to take the items from the Sprint store.

DUI Arrest: Ricardo Perez-Vieyra, 30, of Melrose Park, was charged with felony aggravated DUI, aggravated DUI and driving on a revoked license March 25 after he was pulled over in the 6400 block of North Avenue for speeding, police said. Perez-Vieyra has had at least two previous DUIs on his arrest jacket, police said.

Retail Theft Arrest: Sherell Crockett, 37, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft for attempting to steal infant formula, valued at $325, from Dominick’s Finer Foods, 259 W. Lake St., police said.

Criminal Damage: Paint was scratched March 25 on a 2008 Acura MDX parked in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard. Estimated loss was $300.
