Oak Park Police Blotter: Girls Arrested with (Hair) Piece

Bike thefts, DUIs and more.

The following items are taken from the daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal Damage: The rear passenger side door of a 2000 Toyota Camry stopped in the in 0-100 block of Madison Street was scratched July 24. 

Theft: A cell phone inside of a backpack was taken July 24 from a sleeping rider waiting for a CTA Green Line train. Estimated loss was $100.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Liliana Melara, 36, of Chicago, was charged July 24 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 300 block of South Ridgeland Avenue.

Burglary: A GPS unit was taken sometime between July 21 and July 22 from an 2002 Dodge Durango parked in an unlocked garage of a home in the 1000 block of North Humphrey Avenue. A 2006 Jeep Liberty, also in the garage, was ransacked but nothing was taken. Estimated loss was $100.

Burglary to Auto: A wallet containing miscellaneous items was taken July 21 from an unlocked 1994 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 500 block of North Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $55.

DUI Arrest: Faustino Brito, 44, of Bolingbrook, was charged with drunken driving July 24, police said.  He was apprehended sleeping at the wheel of his Ford truck parked in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue.

Burglary: A bicycle was taken sometime between July 20 and July 24 from a storage locked of a residence in the 200 block of South Maple Avenue. Entry was gained by prying off the hasp of the locker. Estimated loss was $460.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit was taken sometime between July 21 and July 22 from a 2002 Toyota Camry parked in the 600 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated loss was $300.

Criminal Trespass: The interior was ransacked and a profane word written in silver marker sometime between July 21 and July 22 on the driver’s door of a 2003 Subaru Forester parked in the 800 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated damage was $100.

Retail Theft: Jerome Holder, 51, of Chicago, was charged July 22 with felony retail theft and battery in connection with an incident at , 345 Madison St. police said. Police said Holder took $56 in hygiene products and shoved the manager in his attempt to flee the store.

Theft Arrest: Marshon Diming, 18, of Chicago, was charged July 22 with felony arrest for an incident in which a laptop computer and accessories were taken earlier this month from a classroom at , 3 Erie Court, police said. The loss was estimated at $1,340.

Criminal Damage: The window on the front door of a home in the 1100 block of South Cuyler Avenue was broken July 23. Estimated loss was $300.

Burglary to Auto: Approximately $200 was taken July 23 from an unlocked 2001 Lexus GS 300 parked in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Theft: A bicycle was taken July 23 from the open garage of a home in the 500 block of North Humphrey Avenue.  Estimated loss was $1,300.

Auto Theft: A 2001 GMC Yukon parked in the 1100 block of South Taylor Avenue was taken July 23.  Estimated loss was $7,000.

Retail Theft Arrests: Two female juveniles from Chicago were charged July 23 with retail theft after taking and concealing two packages containing hair pieces from ,141 W. Madison Ave., and leaving the store. They were apprehended a short time later.

Auto Theft: A 1994 Ford Escort was taken sometime between July 22 and July 23 from a home in the 500 block of Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,000.

Burglary: A lawn mower and two bicycles were taken sometime between July 22 and July 23 from the garage of a home in the 700 block of Gunderson Avenue. Entry was gained through a window. Estimated loss was $1,150.

Retail Theft: Clothing valued at $478 was taken sometime between July 16 and July 23 from a display rack at , 106 N. Marion St.
