Oak Park Police Blotter: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Hoop dreams dashed, burglaries to cars, thefts and more reported.

The following items are taken from daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Auto Burglary: Approximately $5 in change was stolen May 27 from an unlocked 1999 Buick Regal parked in the 300 block of South Home Avenue. The glove compartment and center console were ransacked.

Auto Burglary: A purse containing a wallet, miscellaneous credit cards, checks and $15 was reported stolen May 26 from an unlocked 2008 Volvo parked in the 800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. The estimated loss was $619.

Auto Burglary: A digital camera and an iPod were stolen May 26 from an unlocked 2005 Chevy Classic parked in the 1200 block of Forest Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.

Criminal Damage: The driver’s side window of a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor parked in the 1100 block of Harrison Street was broken May 25. Estimated damage was $20.

Auto Burglary: A garage door opener was stolen May 25 from the glove box of a 2001 Lexus ES 300 parked in the 100 block of North Oak Park Avenue. Estimated loss was $50.

Auto Burglary: A GPS adapter unit and $10 in change were reported taken on May 25 from a 2004 Nissan Murano parked in the 200 block of Forest Avenue.

Auto Burglary: Electrical items, a brief case and sunglasses were stolen May 25 from an unlocked 2007 BMW parked in the 100 block of Forest Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,520.

Retail Theft Arrest: 17-year-old female from Chicago was charged May 25 with attempting to take human hair from, 20 Madison Street. She was turned over to a legal guardian.

Burglary from Auto: A military knife was stolen from a 2010 Subaru Legacy parked in the 100 block of Forest Avenue May 25. It appears that the knife was used to slash the car’s rear passenger side tire. The loss and damage were estimated at $250.

Residential Burglary: Approximately $215 was stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Randolph Street. Entry was gained by unknown means. The crime occurred between May 20 and May 24, when it was reported to police.

Auto Burglary: Approximately $40 in quarters was reported stolen on May 24 from an unlocked 2005 Toyota Sienna parked in the 1100 block of Clarence Avenue.

Theft Arrest: Moises Ochoa, 50, of Forest Park, was charged with theft May 24 after attempting to take a basketball hoop located in the alley behind a home in the 900 block of South Maple Avenue.

Theft: A motorized electric wheelchair on May 23 was stolen from the front yard of a home in the 800 block of South Maple Avenue. The item was left unsecured and unattended. Estimated loss was $5,000.

Burglary to Garage: A snow blower, lawnmower and a boy’s bicycle were stolen May 24 from the garage of a home in the 900 block of North Lombard Avenue. Once in the garage, which was entered by removing the dead bolt on the side service door, a Nano iPod and an iPad computer were also taken from a 2005 Mercedes-Benz parked inside. Estimated loss was $2,800.

Burglary to Garage: A Skil saw and drill were stolen May 22 from the garage of a home in the 900 block of North Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained by using a pry-type tool to force open the window on the south side of the garage. Estimated loss was $600.

Theft: Various identification cards were reported stolen on May 22 from the bag of a rider on a CTA Blue Line. The crime was reported at the stop in the 700 block of South Austin Boulevard.

Auto Burglary: A CD case and a wallet containing $12, miscellaneous identification and credit cards were stolen May 23 from a 2003 Mercedes-Benz parked in the 900 block of South Elmwood Avenue. The CD case, medical and credit cards were later recovered in the 1100 block of South Elmwood. The total loss was $42.

Auto Burglary:Change amounting to $7 was stolen May 23 from a 2000 Honda Accord parked in the 400 block of South Grove Avenue. Entry to the auto was unknown; the vehicle was ransacked. Loss was $7.

Auto Burglary: A GPS device was stolen on May 23 from a 2010 Subaru Legacy parked in the 100 block of Forest Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked front driver’s side door. Loss was estimated at $200.

Domestic Battery: Derron Burns, 36, of Oak Park, was charged May 23 with domestic battery, police said. The incident came after an argument escalated between the two in the 1000 block of West Lake Street.

Theft: A Weber kettle grill was stolen May 23 from the backyard of a home in the 600 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. Estimated loss was $150.

Theft: A bicycle parked in the first block of Lake Street was stolen May 23. The bike was unlocked and unattended. Estimated loss was $350.

Criminal Damage: The rear driver’s side window on a 1999 Chrysler 300 was broken May 23. The car was parked in the 300 block of South Harvey Avenue. Estimated damage was $150.

Criminal Damage: The driver’s side front and rear window of a 2002 Saab were broken on May 23. Damage was estimated at $1,000. The car was parked in the 200 block of South Elmwood Avenue.

Criminal Damage: The driver’s side rear window on a 2009 Honda Civic was reported broken on May 23. The vehicle was parked in the 300 block of South Cuyler Avenue. It is unknown what was used to break the window. Damage was estimated at $300.

Criminal Damage: The driver’s side front and rear windows of a 2006 Ford Focus were broken on May 23. The incident took place in the 300 block of Scoville Avenue. Damage was estimated at $600.

Auto Burglary Attempt: The center console of a 1997 Jeep Wrangler was reported ransacked on May 22. The vehicle was parked in the 1000 block of North Taylor Avenue. There was no loss. Entry was gained through an unlocked driver’s side front door.

Theft From Auto: A registration plate and sticker were reported stolen on May 22 from a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer parked in the first block of Washington Boulevard. Estimated loss was $26.

Burglary to Garage: An inverter box, air compressor and party supplies were reported stolen on May 21 from 2000 Toyota Sienna parked in the garage of a home in the 1000 block of North Taylor Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked service door. There was an unsuccessful attempt to also remove the ignition and a stereo from a 2000 Honda Civic parked in the car port. Estimated loss was $550.

Marijuana Possession: A 16-year-old from Oak Park was charged May 20 with possession of marijuana. The arrest took place at Oak Park and River Forest High School, 200 N. Scoville Ave., police said. The juvenile was turned over to the custody of his guardian.

Criminal Damage: The rear passenger window of a 2002 Honda Accord parked in the 0-100 block of Washington Boulevard was damaged May 20 with a BB pellet. Estimated damage was $150.

Theft: A plastic solar paneled animal repeller was stolen May 20 from the front yard of a home in the 200 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. The loss was estimated at $35.

Criminal Damage to Property: A double-paned bedroom window of the rear garden apartment of a building in the 100 block of North Euclid Avenue was reported broken on May 21. The damage estimate was $100.

Domestic Battery: Brussie Bolar, 34, of Oak Park, was charged May 21 with two counts of domestic battery and interfering with the report of a domestic battery, police said. The incident took place in the 500 block of North Oak Park Avenue.

Residential Burglary: Numerous electronic items, jewelry and DVDs were stolen May 21 from an apartment in a building in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard. Entry was gained through a small bedroom window. The estimated loss was $6,000.

Theft: Car keys, clothing and $400 were reported stolen on May 21 from a locked locker at the, 200 South Marion Street. Entry to the locker was gained by using a pry tool. Estimated loss was $650.

Robbery: A 15-year-old youth was injured after he was robbed of his cell phone May 21. According to police, the victim was seated on a bench in the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue around 6 p.m. when a man approached him from behind and punched him in the right side of his face. The offender ran off with two others through the lot at 801 S. Oak Park Ave. Estimated loss was $400.

Theft: A package containing a bathing suit was reported taken on May 19 from the unlocked vestibule of a building in the 200 block of South Home Avenue. Estimated loss was $80.
