Oak Park Police Blotter: Handbag Swiped

Boy bike rider steals purse, bike thefts and more reported.

The following items are taken from the daily summary reports from June 9 to June 14. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Domestic Battery Arrest: A 16-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody June 14 for domestic battery, police said. He was turned over to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

Theft: A purse was stolen June 14 from a woman sitting on the porch of a home in the 300 block of North Marion Street. The victim told police a young man around 18 years of age walked up to her and asked if he could use her cell phone. The offender then grabbed the purse and gave it to another man, believed to be about 18 years old, standing on the sidewalk. The pair ran away.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Martell Riley, 20, of Chicago, was charged on June 14 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 0-100 block of Chicago Avenue.

Theft: An unknown length of aluminum-weaved fence was taken June 14 from the yard of a home in the 900 block of South Highland Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.

Residential Burglary: Two televisions and a jewelry box were stolen June 14 from a home in the 900 block of North Ridgeland. Entry was gained by prying off the lock on the rear door. Estimated loss was $4,350.

Warrant Arrest: Alexander J. Brown, 27, of Berwyn, was arrested June 14 on a warrant from Oak Park for possession of marijuana, police said.

Theft Arrest: Raymond Medina, 51, of Oak Park, was charged June 14 with the theft of a bicycle stolen earlier in the day from the 700 block of Highland Avenue, police said.

Robbery: One purse was stolen and a second nearly swiped June 14 by a pair of boys riding bicycles in the 800 block of North Boulevard. A victim told police she and a friend were walking in the area when two boys riding bikes approached them from behind. One of them grabbed a purse from the woman’s shoulder, breaking the strap, while the second boy attempted to take her friend’s purse. That woman fell to the ground during the attempt but was uninjured. The estimated loss was $415.

Auto Theft: A 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo parked in the 800 block of South Fillmore Avenue was stolen sometime between June 13 and June 14. Estimated loss was $1,000.

Theft: A mountain bike was stolen sometime between June 13 and June 14 from a home in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue. The bike was locked at the time. Estimated loss was $95.

Criminal Damage: The window on a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue was shattered on June 13. The vehicle was parked in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue. Damage estimate was $300.

Theft: A men’s bicycle was stolen June 13 from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of Schneider Avenue. Entry was gained through an open overhead door. Estimated loss was $452.

Theft: A women’s bicycle locked to a rack in the 00 block of Ridgeland Avenue was taken June 13. Estimated loss was $120.

Warrant Arrest: Christopher Tolin, 46, of Oak Park was arrested June 13 on outside warrants from Will County, police said.

Burglary: A men’s bicycle was taken sometime between June 12 and June 13 from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Euclid Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked service door. Estimated loss was $250.

Theft from Auto: Two air bag sensor covers were pried off the front bumper of a 2007 Toyota Rav4 parked in the 100 block of Kenilworth Avenue sometime between June 12 and June 13. Estimated loss was $100.

Theft: The front and rear license plates of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am parked in the 6300 block of Roosevelt Road sometime between June 10 and June 13.

Theft: A package delivered by the U.S. Postal Service was taken sometime between June 10 and June 12 from a home in the 0-100 block of Adams Street. Estimated loss was $90.

Theft: A wallet was taken from a purse left unattended by a customer June 9 at , 7036 W. Roosevelt Rd. Estimated loss was $60.
