Oak Park Police Blotter: Heroin Bust, Theft Charges and More

Another umbrella snatched, teen arrested for heroin possession.

The following items are taken from  daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal Damage: A catalytic converter pipe was cut sometime between Sept. 25 and Sept. 29 on a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner parked in the 100 block of North Austin Boulevard. Estimated damage was $2,200.

Theft: A 15-inch bicycle was stolen Sept. 29 from the rear yard of a home in the 1100 block of South Lombard Avenue. Estimated loss was $200.

Theft: An unattended bag containing a camera, camera lens and computer hardware were stolen Sept. 28 from an unlocked room in , 931 Lake St. Estimated loss was $1,009.

Residential Burglary: An oil painting was ripped and several art objects were stolen sometime between Aug. 2 and Sept. 29 from a home in the 1100 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking through the deadbolt lock on the rear door. Estimated loss was $9,850.

Theft, Assault: A 17-year-old from Chicago was charged with theft and assault Sept. 29 in connection with an incident this summer at the playground at , police said. On Aug. 29, the 17-year-old asked a 15-year-old if he could borrow his phone to make a call and when the victim asked for his phone back, the offender threatened to hit him, police said. Oak Park police found the offender at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, 1100 S. Hamilton Ave., where he was being held on an unrelated charge, processed him on the current charges and returned him to the detention center. 1100 S. Hamilton Ave.

Drug Charge: A 15-year-old from Chicago was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance Sept. 29 after a traffic stop in the 900 block of South Menard, police said. Officers found eight clear plastic baggies containing a substance that tested positive for heroin, approximately 3.4 grams in all, police said. He boy also was arrested on an outside warrant for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, police said.

Criminal Damage: The roof of a 2011 Toyota Prius was damaged sometime between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28 by a wooden window frame that was thrown on it. The auto was parked in the 300 block of North Taylor Avenue. Estimated damage was $200.

Burglary to Auto: The center console was ransacked but nothing was taken Sept. 28 from a 2002 Dodge Neon parked in the 1100 block of South Euclid Avenue. Entry was gained by throwing a brick through the front driver’s side door window. Estimated damage was $200.

Theft: An unlocked 27-inch bicycle was stolen Sept. 28 from the front yard of a home in the 0-100 block of Harrison Street. Estimated loss was $600.

Residential Burglary: Miscellaneous jewelry valued at about $5,000 was stolen Sept. 27 from a home in the 300 block of South Wesley Avenue. One offender told the owner, a woman in her late 70s, he was there to finish up repairs and when she invited him in, unbeknownst to her, a second offender entered the house and went to the second floor where he found the items.

Residential Burglary: A game system and game were taken Sept. 28 from an apartment in the 100 block of North Grove Avenue. Entry was gained through the unlocked front door.

Theft from Auto: A 2012 registration sticker was taken sometime between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28 from the license plate of a 2005 Dodge Caravan, parked in the 7000 block of W. Roosevelt Road.

Theft: A polka-dotted white umbrella and music practice chart were taken Sept. 28 from a secured locker at , 400 S. Ridgeland Avenue.

Theft: An unsecured bicycle was stolen Sept. 27 from a rack at , 900 North Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $200.   

Theft: A mountain bicycle, locked to a rack near the Green Line station at Oak Park Avenue, was taken Sept. 28. Estimated loss was $759.
