Oak Park Police Blotter: All Sorts of Thefts

Oak Park police reports, July 6 - July 9, first watch.

SUNDAY, JULY 8

Phone Theft

Two iPhones were stolen from two different lockers from a business in the 1100 block of Lake. Total estimated loss was $600.

Theft of Services

Ten men and women left Denny’s, 711 N. Harlem Ave., without paying for the food and beverages they were served. Estimated loss was $48.62.

JULY 7 – JULY 8

Auto Theft

A rented 2012 Chevrolet Impala parked in front of a building in the 0-100 block of Superior Street was stolen. Estimated loss was $26,000.

SATURDAY, JULY 7

Theft

A wallet containing $12, credit/debit and identification cards was stolen from a table outside of the Buzz Café, 905 S. Lombard Ave. The thief fled the scene on foot south on Lombard to west on Garfield Avenue. Estimated loss was $32.

Theft Arrest

Charles E. Branscum, 47, of Chicago, was charged with theft for taking a bike from the rack at Ridgeland Common, 415 Lake St., police said. Employees called police after Branscrum was observed on a video surveillance camera. He was arrested in the 11000 block of South Boulevard.

JULY 6 – JULY 7

Theft

A 3-by-5 iron grate owned by the village was stolen from the base of a tree located on the sidewalk in the 00 block of Chicago Avenue.

FRIDAY, JULY 6

Theft Arrest

A 16-year-old from Chicago was charged with theft for taking a cell phone from a table inside of Caribou Coffee, 136 N. Oak Park Ave., police said. An employee called police, who apprehended the youth in the 600 block of South Boulevard. He was turned over to a parent, police said.

Theft

A locked girls’ bike was stolen from a rack outside of Rehm Park, 515 Garfield St. Estimated loss was $550.

Theft

An iPhone was stolen from a bench in the emergency room at West Suburban Medical Center, 3 Erie Ct. Estimated loss was $300.

JULY 5 – JULY 6

Burglary to Auto

A GPS unit was stolen from an unlocked 2012 Ford Escape parked in the rear carport of a home in the 800 block of Clinton Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.

JULY 3 – JULY 5

Theft

An unsecured 150-foot garden hose was stolen outside of an apartment building in the 1100 block of Randolph Street. Estimated loss was $500.

Burglary to Auto

An iPod Touch and a GPS unit were stolen from an unlocked 2008 Infiniti parked in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 200 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $550.
