Oak Park Police Blotter: Money Stolen from Ascension Donation Box

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Criminal Damage: A second floor window on the southwest side of a building in the 1000 block of South Boulevard was cracked sometime between May 18 and May 21. The screen of that window was cut with a cutting device. Estimated damage was $550.

Burglary: Four doors and an equal number of windows were damaged and someone gained entry to two suites in a building in the 200 block of South Marion Street sometime between May 20 and May 21; no items were taken. Estimated damage was $1,400.

Theft: Approximately $52.12 in gasoline was stolen from the Shell station May 20 when a female pumped gas into a 2002 Saturn and took off without paying.

Theft: Approximately $150 was stolen sometime between May 19 and May 20 from the donation box at Ascension Catholic Church, 808 S. East Ave.

Theft: An unattended diaper bag containing baby clothes and a camera was stolen May 22 from the break room at Dole Branch Library, 255 Augusta Blvd. Estimated loss was $110.

Criminal Damage: The passenger side tail light was broken sometime between May 21 and May 22 on a 1996 Lexus parked in the 400 block of Washington Boulevard. Estimated loss was $150.

Burglary: A car stereo, cash and miscellaneous CDs were stolen May 17 from a 2001 Honda Accord parked in the 1100 block of South Austin Boulevard. The car interior also was ransacked. Estimated loss was $150.

Residential Burglary: Two wallets, cash, miscellaneous IDs and gift cards were stolen May 15 from a home in the 100 block of North Oak Park Avenue. Entry was gained by prying the wooden door frame and deadbolt lock. Estimated loss was $507.65.

Burglary: A saw was stolen May 18 from the garage of a home in the 600 block of Clarence Avenue. Entry was gained through a closed, but unlocked, overhead door. Estimated loss was $240.

Theft: A bicycle locked to a rack in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue was stolen sometime between May 10 and May 16. Estimated loss was $375.

Burglary: An estimated $2,480 worth of bicycles, tools, gardening and car cleaning equipment was stolen sometime between May 16 and May 20 from the garage of a home in the 900 block of South Oak Park Avenue. Entry was gained by prying open the side service door.

Domestic Battery: Kenya Newsom, 35, of Chicago, was charged with domestic battery May 20 for an incident that took place in the 900 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, police said.

Criminal Damage: The right rear tire on a 2006 Toyota parked in the 500 block of South Scoville Avenue was punctured sometime between May 19 and May 20. Estimated damage was $100.

DUI Arrest: Dennis Walsh, 67, of Oak Park, was charged May 20 with two counts of drunken driving, police said. He was arrested in the area of Lake Street and Ridgeland Avenue.

Possession: Damian Tarnowski, 29, of Norridge, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and drunken driving after a May 20 traffic stop in the 1000 of Linden Avenue, police said. He also had outstanding warrants out of Oak Park for failing to appear in court on a driving on a suspended license charge and another warrant out of Norridge for criminal damage to property, police said.
