Oak Park Police Blotter: One of Two Arrested in Convenience Store Hold-Up

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Burglary to Auto: An air compressor was stolen Dec. 21 from a 2001 GMC Savana parked in the 700 block of Washington Boulevard. Entry was gained by punching out the lock on the passenger side cargo door. Estimated loss is $400.

Burglary: Approximately $5 in change was stolen sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 from a 2005 Acura SUV parked in the garage of a home in the 700 block of South Lyman Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear door. A 10-speed bicycle also was taken. Estimated loss was $55.

Theft: A package containing three shirts was stolen Dec. 21 off the front porch of a home in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue. A witness told police a man concealed the package in a shoulder bag and walked west on Jackson Boulevard. Estimated loss was $52.99.

Residential Burglary: Approximately $16,250 in jewelry was stolen Dec. 21 from the bedroom of a home in the 100 block of South Grove Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the basement door window. The home was not ransacked and nothing else was taken, police said.

Retail Theft: Hygiene products, cosmetics and toys were taken Dec. 19 from Walgreens, 811 Madison St., by a woman who was accompanied by two children. Each child walked out of the store holding a toy. They entered a 1998 BMW 528IA and took off in an unknown direction. Estimated loss is unknown.

Arson: A suspicious fire burned two garbage cans outside of at a home in the 600 block of Fair Oaks Avenue Dec. 21 and spread to the siding, damaging the exterior of the garage. Estimated loss was $1,600.

Criminal Damage: A fire damaged a garbage can located in the alley of a home in the 800 block of North Grove Avenue on Dec. 21. Estimated loss was $100.

Theft: A package of medication was taken Dec. 21 from the common area of an apartment in the 300 block of South East Avenue. Estimated loss was $130.57.

Theft from Person: An iPhone was taken Dec. 21 from the pocket of a hooded sweatshirt of 15-year-old girl while a fire drill was taking place at , 201 N. Scoville Avenue. Estimated loss was $500.

Outside Warrant: Eddie Barraza, 29, of Chicago, turned himself at the Dec. 21 on a warrant out of Kendall County for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Criminal Damage: The driver side doors were scratched and the windshield wiper on the same side was bent on a 2008 Honda Civic parked in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue sometime between Dec. 21 and Dec. 22. Estimated loss was $200.

Theft: A package containing an Apple laptop was stolen Dec. 21 from the common lobby of a building in the 800 block of Pleasant Street. The empty package was left in the rear of the building. Estimated loss was $600.

Theft Arrest: Michael Lewis, 22, of Chicago, was charged Dec. 21 with theft for allegedly cutting a catalytic converter off a 2007 Honda Element parked in the parking lot at , 3 Erie Ct., police said. A video depicting the Nov. 30 incident led to Lewis’ arrest, police said.

Criminal Damage to Auto: Jeff Requarth, 57, of Oak Park, was charged with criminal damage to property Dec. 22 for puncturing tires on three different cars parked in the 400 block of South Lombard Avenue, police said. The incidents took place on Dec. 20.

Theft from Person: An iPhone was grabbed from the hand of a female passenger on a CTA Green Line train Dec. 22 by a man who, with three accomplices, then fled the train at the Harlem Avenue stop. Estimated loss was $199.

Traffic Arrest: Joseph Gilmore, 20, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured auto Dec. 23 after a traffic stop at Madison Street and Elmwood Avenue, police said. He was pulled over for having one headlight on his car.

Domestic Battery: Katharine E. Taylor, 24, of Oak Park, was charged Dec. 22 with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a domestic battery, police said. The incident took place in the 1100 block of South Lombard Avenue.

Outside Warrant: Paul Turner, 18, of Chicago, was arrested Dec. 22 on an active warrant out of Maywood for theft, police said. He was picked up in the 200 block of Lake Street.

Residential Burglary: Two laptop computers, an iPod and $70 were stolen Dec. 20 from a home in the 100 block of North Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking a window and then opening the rear door. Estimated loss was $2,970.

Theft: A DVD was taken Dec. 20 from a package left at a home in the 600 block of North East Avenue. Estimated loss was $25.

DUI: Andrei Creighton, 32, of Chicago was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI and the illegal transport of liquor Dec. 20 after a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Austin Boulevard, police said. Officers saw a Dodge Durango in a no-parking zone and spotted an open bottle of beer in a drink holder and noticed a strong odor of alcohol in the car. He had refused a couple of field sobriety tests but took one, which indicated he had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, police said.
