Oak Park Police Blotter: OPRF Student Charged with Stealing Cell Phone

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Burglary to Auto: A touch-screen radio system was taken Dec. 8 from the center console of an unlocked 2003 GMC Denali parked in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard. Estimated loss is $450.

DUI Arrest: Nicholas Popinski, 21, of Cicero, was charged Dec. 8 with drunken driving, police said. He was picked up during a traffic stop in the 700 block of South Austin Boulevard.

Residential Burglary: Two laptops, an iPad and a iPod were stolen Dec. 8 from a home in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue. Entry was gained through a closed, but unlocked, rear window; the residence also was ransacked. Estimated loss was $6,800.

Theft Arrest: A 16-year-old from Oak Park turned himself in to police and was charged with theft Dec. 7 for taking a cell phone from a classmate at , 201 N. Scoville Ave., police said. The student confessed after coming in to the police station with his mother to be questioned about the Oct. 12 incident in which the device was stolen from a backpack during science. The phone was sold to someone, but the teenager did not identify who bought it, police said.

Outside Warrant: Christopher K. Barron, 26, of Chicago, was arrested Dec. 7 on an outstanding warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating parole. He was apprehended in the 5900 block of North Avenue in Chicago.

Burglary to Auto: A leather wallet containing a driver’s license cash and credit cards was stolen Dec. 6 from an unlocked 2010 Honda Fit parked in the garage, 2 Erie Ct. Estimated loss was $120.
