Oak Park Police Blotter: Pair Accused of Taking $1,000 of Old Navy Clothes

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Outside Warrant: Dorian Smith-Ward, 18, of Oak Park, was arrested March 9 on an active warrant out of Chicago for drunken driving, police said. He was apprehended in the 100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue.

Possession: St. Charles residents Steven R. Lapradd, 27, and Lee Coleman, 25, were charged March 9 with possession of a controlled substance after an traffic stop at a gas station, police said. Officers approached a Ford Fusion parked in the lot at the Shell Station, 1 Harrison St., and noticed that one man, in plain view of police, was holding a hypodermic needle; a tin foil packet was resting on his lap. After an investigation, officers found foil packets containing a powdery substance later ID'd as 6.0 grams of heroin in a plastic baggie and 4.3 grams of heroin in a cigarette box in the auto.

Theft: A black box containing several hand tools was stolen sometime between March 7 and March 9 from a 1999 Ford F150 truck parked in the rear of a home in the 500 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,650.

Residential Burglary: A laptop, a designer backpack and a pack of cigarettes were stolen March 9 from bedrooms of a home in the 400 block of South Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained through a closed, but unlocked, rear door. Estimated loss was $708.

Disorderly Conduct: Richard P. Lee, 51, of Oak Park, was charged with disorderly conduct March 9 after blocking the entry and exit doors at Old Navy, 417 N. Harlem Ave., police said. Police said over a 15-minute stretch of time, Lee yelled profanities and became aggressive towards a store employee and blocked the doors.

Retail Theft: Stephanie Atwater, 21, and Andrea Freeman, 20, both of Chicago, were charged with felony retail theft March 9 for attempting to take more than $1,000 worth of children’s clothing from Old Navy, 417 N. Harlem Ave., police said. Police said the pair filled shopping bags, entered separate changing rooms and then left bags in different places around the store. The pair then fled east bound to the parking lot, where they were taken into custody, police said. A name check also showed an active warrant out of Chicago Ridge for battery, police said.

Theft: Tools were stolen March 10 from an unlocked 2001 GMC 3500 van parked in the 1000 block of Columbian Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,100.

Theft: A spare tire was stolen March 10 from underneath a 2007 Chevrolet Trail Blazer parked in the rear lot of a building in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Estimated loss was $200.

DUI Charge:  Margaret K. Miles, 61, of Oak Park was charged with drunken driving March 10 after her car struck another parked in the 100 block of North Elmwood Avenue, police said.

Unlawful Use of a Weapon: Michael Griffin, 40, of Broadview, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon March 10 after a holstered.38 caliber handgun was found under the driver’s seat of his car, police said. Griffin had been stopped in the southbound lane of the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard after rear-ending a car at the light, police said. He also was charged with driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.

Traffic Arrest: Tyerica Bereyman, 28, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license March 11 after a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Austin Boulevard, police said.

DUI Charge: Jamil P. Moses, 30, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol March 11 after a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Augusta Street, police said.

DUI Charge: Sherita D. Harris-Lookman, 37, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license March 11 after a traffic stop in the 6100 block of North Avenue, police said.

Retail Theft: Charles L. Franklin, 52, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft March 11 after he tried taking a $23 bottle of vodka from Dominick’s Finer Foods, 259 Lake St., police said.

Burglary: Four boxes of china, a CD radio, DVDs and CDs, four steel planters, a patio table and chairs and yard tools were stolen sometime between March 10 and March 11 from the garage of a home in the 800 block of North East Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the lock on the side service door. Estimated loss was unknown.

Criminal Damage: A cement flower pot in front of a home in the 1000 block of South Euclid Avenue was broken sometime between March 10 and March 11. Estimated loss was $300.

Theft: A purse was stolen March 11 from inside a shopping cart at Jewel-Osco, 438 W. Madison St. Estimated loss was $254.
