Oak Park Police Blotter: Popcorn Burglary, Parking Meter Thefts

Parking meter boxes swiped, woman arrested for driving on a suspended license - twice.

The following items are taken from the daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary: Approximately $500 in cash was stolen Sept. 27 from , 1119 W. Lake St. and $30 in cash, driver’s license and credit cards were taken from an employee at the same business. Total loss was estimated at $530.

Theft: Two parking meter boxes were stolen sometime between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27 from the 100 block of North Scoville Avenue. The bolt securing the two meters to their pole was removed. Estimated loss was $700, excluding the amount that was in the meters at the time.

Residential Burglary: Two computers, two monitors, a printer and three television sets were taken Sept. 27 from a home in the 200 block of North Austin Boulevard. Entry was gained by cutting a screen and climbing through an open window. Estimated loss was $3,750.

Criminal Damage: A BB gun was used to break out a storm glass window of a home in the 700 block of Gunderson Avenue on Sept. 27. Estimated damage was $250.

Theft: A 28-inch men’s bicycle was stolen sometime between Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 from the gated common area of a residence in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Estimated loss was $300.

Domestic Battery: Marvin E. Cheefus, 29, of Oak Park, was charged Sept. 26 with domestic battery, police said. He was apprehended in the 300 block of West Madison Street.

Traffic Arrest: Simone B. Nurse, 31, of Oak Park, was charged Sept. 26 with driving on a suspended license, police said. Police said an officer saw Nurse run a stop sign at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Lyman Avenue and pulled her over in the 1100 block of South Highland Avenue. An investigation at the scene revealed an outstanding warrant out of Cook County for the same offense, police said.

Theft: Two 5-foot by 7-foot rugs were stolen sometime between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 from the open front porch of a home in the 600 block of North Grove Avenue. Estimated loss as $700.

Theft: Two 4-foot by 4-foot plastic tote containers encased with aluminum bars were stolen sometime between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 from the rear of a building in the 6800 block of North Avenue. Estimated loss was $350
