Oak Park Police Blotter: Superman Defeats Kryptonite (Lock)

Man exposes himself in village lot, bike thefts, and more.

The following items are taken from daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Reginald Hooks, 27, of Westchester, was charged June 23 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 900 block of South Harlem Avenue.

Residential Burglary: Miscellaneous jewelry, books, a pair of binoculars and a Kryptonite brand bicycle lock were taken sometime between June 22 and June 23 from an apartment in the 1000 block of North Boulevard. Entry was gained by unlocking a rear door after breaking a window in it. Estimated loss was $1,090.

Assault Arrest: Jeremy Morales, 24, of Oak Park, was charged June 23 for assault a day after he threatened his landlord during a dispute, police said.

Theft: A bicycle locked to the rack at , 201 Scoville Ave., was taken June 23. The loss was estimated at $100.

Public Indecency: A male in his 20s approached a woman from behind, made derogatory remarks at her and then exposed himself. The victim walked across the street and dialed 911. The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. June 23 in the village lot on Lake Street near Harlem Avenue.

Residential Burglary: A television, a pack of socks and a pack of T-shirts were taken June 23 from an apartment in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard. Entry was gained through the locked rear door but there is no indication if force was used. Estimated loss was $1,774.99.

Marijuana Possession: Christopher Saylor, 22, of Melrose Park, was charged June 23 charged with possession of cannabis, police said. The arrest took place after officers saw a vehicle facing the wrong way on a one-way parkway in the 200 block of Randolph Street. They approached the car and smelled a strong odor of cannabis. After an investigation at the scene, police said they found a small bag of a green leafy substance underneath Saylor’s seat.

Burglary Arrest: Martin Daniels. 47, of Chicago, was charged June 22 with burglary as he was caught trying to take a GPS unit from a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu and a socket wrench set from the garage of a home in the 700 block of South Taylor Avenue, police said. Daniels was also charged with attempting to break into another garage in the same block earlier in the day. He was nabbed by police a block away after the break-in.

Criminal Damage: The rear door of a home in the 700 block of South Boulevard was damaged sometime between June 21 and June 22. Estimated damage was $150.

Criminal Damage to Auto: The rear driver’s side window of a 2011 Toyota Tundra parked in the 6800 block of Roosevelt Road was broken June 22. Estimated damage was $300.

Theft: A bicycle secured with a Kryptonite brand cable was stolen June 21 from a rack in the 00 block of South Boulevard. The estimated loss was $20.

Theft: A bicycle locked to a rack in the 0-100 block of South Boulevard was stolen June 21. The estimated loss was $50.

Theft: A men’s bicycle locked to a rack in the 0-100 block of North Oak Park Avenue was taken June 22. Estimated loss was $429.

Warrant Arrest: Larry Williams, 37, of Oak Park, was arrested June 22 on an outside warrant for failing to appear in Sangamon County Court for driving on a suspended license.

Disorderly Conduct: A 16-year-old male from Oak Park was charged with disorderly conduct June 22, police said. Officers received a call from security at the main branch of the , alarmed that they saw someone carrying what they believed was a black handgun in . The item turned out to be a pellet gun. The juvenile fled on foot and was stopped in the 100 block of Linden Avenue. He also got a ticket for carrying a firearm in a park, a violation of park district rules, police said.

Theft: An unattended bag containing a cell phone, shoes and cash was taken June 22 from the bleachers at the north end of the athletic field at , in the 500 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $365.

Theft: A bicycle locked to a rack at was taken June 22. Estimated loss was $360.

Theft: Ten used car batteries were taken June 22 from the rear of, 1140 Garfield Ave. Estimated loss was $180.

Theft: A 26-inch men’s bicycle was stolen sometime between June 19 and June 20 from a home in the 1100 block of South Boulevard.

Theft: Three bicycles were taken sometime between June 17 and June 20 from the yard of a home in the 200 block of South Taylor Avenue. Estimated loss was $461.

Robbery: A purse was stolen June 20 from a woman walking near the El Station on North Boulevard. The incident took place at 11:16 p.m. when an offender approached the woman from behind, demanded money and forcibly removed the leather handbag wrapped across her body. The suspect joined up with another man, both of whom were last seen running southbound on Home Avenue from North Boulevard. The victim was uninjured. The estimated loss was $230.

Criminal Damage: A four-wheel vehicle drove over grass at causing $1,500 in damage. The incident took place sometime between June 20 and June 21.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle: Charles Shannon, 19, of Chicago, was charged June 21 with taking an iPod cord and electronic equipment earlier in the day from a 2011 Kia Sorento parked in the 800 block of South Humphrey, police said. The arrest took place in the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard.

Burglary: A generator, mini-refrigerator, a tool box and two gas cans were taken sometime between June 20 and June 21 from the garage of a home in the 200 block of Linden Avenue. Entry was gained by means of a pry tool. Estimated loss was $910.

Theft: An evergreen plant and a 50-gallon container were taken sometime between June 19 and June 20 from the rear of a residence in the 900 block of Clinton Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.

Theft: Two bicycles were taken June 18 from the garage of a home in the 600 block of South Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained through the open overhead door. Estimated loss was $600.

Theft: Two unlocked bicycles were taken sometime between June 15 and June 20 from the rear yard of a home in the 100 block of South Lombard Avenue. Estimated loss was $110.

Domestic Battery: A 15-year-old male juvenile was charged with domestic battery on June 19. The arrest took place in the 900 block of Ontario Street.

Domestic Battery: Christopher Palmer, 30, of Oak Park, was charged June 19 with domestic battery. The arrest took place in the 400 block of South Oak Park Avenue.

Residential Burglary: A DVD player was stolen sometime June 18 and June 19 from an apartment in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue. Entry was gained by forcing open the rear door. Estimated loss and damage were $150.
