Oak Park Police Blotter: Teen Trashes Detention Room

Body wash and lotion swiped, more bikes taken.

The following items are taken from  daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Domestic Battery: Alexander Epshtein, 40, of Oak Park, was charged Aug. 19 with domestic battery, police said.  The incident took place in the 1000 block of North Harlem Avenue.

Theft:  Two unsecured bicycles were taken sometime between Aug. 18 and Aug. 19 from a home in the 900 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Total estimated loss was $100.

Theft: A wallet containing $60, a cell phone and a watch were taken sometime between July 29 and Aug. 19 from a home in the 400 block of South Oak Park Avenue. Estimated loss was $205.

Theft: Approximately 250 feet of copper wiring was taken sometime between Aug. 15 and Aug. 19 from temporary service electric poles left unattended outside of a business in the 900 block of Garfield Avenue. Estimated loss was $350.

Residential Burglary: Two iPads, a laptop computer, two cameras and jewelry were taken Aug. 19 from a home in the 800 block of South East Avenue. Entry was gained with a pry-type tool. Estimated loss was $2,850.

Theft: A locked women’s bicycle and a child’s trailer were taken sometime between Aug. 18 and Aug. 19 from a home in the 900 block of Home Avenue. Estimated loss was $550.

Burglary: Four tires and rims were taken Aug. 20 from the garage of a home in the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard. An iPod was also taken from on top of the victim’s motorcycle. Estimated loss was $8,050.

Criminal Damage: The liner of a pond in the home in the 500 block of North Humphrey Avenue was slashed sometime between Aug. 18 and Aug. 20. Something also was put into the pond causing it to turn red. Estimated damage was $1,500.

Criminal Damage: The rear door window of a home in the 100 block of Home was shattered Aug. 20. Estimated loss was $150.

Retail Theft: Daishi White, 37, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 20 after attempting to take body wash and lotion valued at $70 from , 345 Madison St., police said.

Burglary: Three bicycles, assorted power tools and a duffle bag were taken sometime between Aug. 18 and Aug. 20 from the garage of a home in the 100 block of North Euclid Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,030.

Theft: A 10-speed bicycle was taken Aug. 21 from the rear yard of a home in the 1100 block of Wesley Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.

Burglary: Two bicycles were taken sometime between Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Elmwood Avenue. Estimated loss was $600.

Criminal Damage: A rock broke the rear window of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta parked Aug. 21 in the 400 block of North Avenue. Estimated loss was $350.

Disorderly Conduct: Four wooden planks were taken sometime between Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 from the fence of a home in the 300 block of North Maple Avenue.

Retail Theft: Body lotion and cosmetic facial pads were taken Aug. 21 from a display shelf at , 345 Madison St. The items were concealed inside a baby stroller and a purse. Estimate of loss was unknown.

Inside Warrant: Marcus Brown, 36, of Joliet, was arrested Aug. 21 on an outstanding warrant out of Oak Park for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license, police said. Brown was pulled over in the 400 block of Lake Street for not having a headlight; officers also found he had no proof of insurance, police said.

Robbery: Blake Bondurant, 25, of Maywood, was charged Aug. 20 with robbery and aggravated battery for striking another man outside of a tavern in Forest Park and taking his wallet, police said. The arrest took place in the 400 block of South Maple Avenue.

Assault: George McMichael, 50, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 18 with assault after he became abusive and threatened a 59-year-old woman after she refused to give him a cigarette and threatened to call police for his behavior, police said. The victim was waiting for a bus in the 100 block of South Oak Park Avenue.

Theft: A 15-year-old from Chicago was charged with theft Aug. 18 for taking a cell phone from a 14-year-old victim who refused to allow him to use it, police said. The arrest took place in the 2100 block of North McVicker in Chicago.

Theft: A bicycle locked to a rack in the 300 block of South Boulevard was taken Aug. 18. Estimated loss was $165.

Burglary to Auto: A 15-year-old from Oak Park was charged Aug. 18 with burglary after he was found inside an unlocked 2005 Chevrolet Suburban parked in the rear of a repair shop in the 200 block of North Lake Street, police said. He was picked up in the 100 block of North Elmwood Avenue. He also was charged with damaging the clock on the wall of the juvenile detention room while he was in custody.

Criminal Damage: A 16-year-old Oak Parker was charged with criminal damage Aug. 18 after stomping on and breaking the skateboard of a 12-year-old after roughhousing between them became increasingly more aggressive, police said. The original incident took place June 2 in the 100 block of North Grove Avenue. The youngster was released to a parent.

Theft: A 21-speed bicycle locked under the rear outside staircase of a building in the 800 block of South Euclid Avenue was taken sometime between Aug. 15 and Aug. 17. Estimated loss was $500.
