Oak Park Police Blotter: Test Drive Goes Awry

Man arrested for sleeping in Metra Station, DUI arrest with child in the car, domestic batteries and more.

The following items are taken from thedaily summary reports from June 15 to June 20. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Traffic Arrest: Donald Quinn, 48, of Chicago, was charged June 20 with driving on a suspended license after a traffic stop in the 300 block of South Austin, police said. He was also arrested on an outstanding DuPage County warrant for failing to appear in court for driving on a suspended license.

Theft: A bicycle was taken June 19 from the rear yard of a home in the 900 block of Lyman Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.

Domestic Battery Arrest: A male juvenile from Oak Park was charged June 19 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 900 block of Ontario Street.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Christopher Palmer, 30, of Oak Park, was charged June 19 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 400 block of South Scoville Avenue.

Warrant Arrest: Mia Davis, 43, of Chicago, was arrested June 19 in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard on an outstanding warrant from Cook County for prostitution.

Theft: A Weber grill was taken sometime between June 18 and June 19 from the rear yard of a home in the 200 block of Thomas Avenue. Estimated loss was $40.

Burglary: Cash registers were emptied sometime between June 18 and June 19 at a business in the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the lower glass panel of the sliding door. Estimated damage was $300.

Theft: Two bicycles were taken June 18 from the garage of a home in the 600 block of South Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained through an open overhead door. Estimated loss was $600.

Domestic Battery Arrest: Fawaz Shawqi Alusail, 20, of Oak Park, was charged June 18 with domestic battery, police said. The arrest took place in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Residential Burglary: An X-Box game console, two controllers, $1,000 in cash and miscellaneous jewelry were stolen June 18 from a home in the 1100 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Entry was gained by prying open the rear basement door. Two men were seen parked directly in the rear of the home and fled the scene northbound through the alley. Estimated loss was $2,970.

DUI Charge: Rosario Hernandez, 29, of Chicago, was charged June 18 with aggravated DUI and endangering the life and health of a child and traffic offenses after a traffic stop in the 800 block of South East Avenue, police said.

DUI Charge: Erika Hernandez, 25, of Cicero, was charged June 18 with aggravated DUI, driving without a valid license, reckless driving and operating an uninsured vehicle after a traffic stop in the 6700 block of West Roosevelt Road, police said.

Criminal Damage: A basement and a first floor window were broken sometime between June 17 and June 18 to a home in the 200 block of North Forest Avenue. Estimated damage was $300.

Domestic Battery: Shaheed J. Archer, 30, of Westchester, was charged June 17 with domestic battery, police said.

Theft: An unlocked 18-speed bicycle was stolen June 17 from the rear yard of a home in the 800 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Estimated loss was $400.

Retail Theft: A computer adaptor was taken June 17 from a business in the 700 block of Madison Street. Estimated loss was $80.

Vehicle Theft: A 1996 Ford F150 truck was stolen June 17 from 6100 Roosevelt Road by a man who came in to test drive the vehicle. Estimated loss was $3,500.

Vehicle Theft: A 1996 Honda motorcycle parked in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue was taken June 17. Estimated loss was $5,000.

Battery Arrest: Carolyn Hodrick, 39, of Chicago, was charged with battery June 17 after an argument inside a classroom at , 820 Ontario St., became violent. Hodrick was an employee of the church, according to police, but there was no indication of who the argument was with.

Robbery Arrest: A 15-year-old from Chicago was charged June 17 with robbery after attempting to take a backpack from a victim who walking in the 300 block of North East Avenue, police said. Police responded to a dispatch of a robbery and apprehended the suspect about 20 minutes after the incident. The 15-year-old was referred to Cook County Juvenile Court and turned over the custody of his mother, police added.

Burglary to Auto: The faceplate of the radio and the cover of the dashboard of a 1993 Toyota Corolla parked in the 100 block of Lake Street were taken sometime between June 16 and June 17. Entry was gained by breaking the rear passenger side window. The trunk was also found ajar and ransacked.

Criminal Damage: The front and rear windshields of a 2009 Saturn Outlook were broken sometime between June 16 and June 17 parked in the rear of a residence in the 900 block of North Oak Park Avenue. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Criminal Trespass: Larry Gaylor, 30, of Chicago, was charged June 16 with criminal trespass after receiving numerous warnings not to sleep in the Metra Station, 1000 North Blvd.

Recovered Stolen Auto: A 1995 Honda Civic stolen out of Chicago on June 8 was recovered June 16 in the 300 block of South Scoville Avenue by Oak Park police. There have been no arrests.

Theft: Two bicycles were taken sometime between June 15 and June 16 from the rear yard of a home in the 900 block of Highland Avenue. Estimated loss was $750.

Criminal Trespass: The interior of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta parked in the 500 block of South Euclid Avenue was ransacked sometime between June 15 and June 16 but nothing was taken.

Criminal Trespass: The interior of a 2003 Pontiac GrandAm parked in the 500 block of South Euclid Avenue was ransacked sometime between June 15 and June 16 but nothing was taken.

Theft: An iPhone was taken June 16 from underneath a bench at , 610 S. Ridgeland Ave. The victim told police he was playing basketball at the time. Estimated loss was $50.

Criminal Trespass: Lawrence Hanks, 53, of Chicago, was charged June 15 with criminal trespass to a business, police said after repeatedly being sold not to come in to the, 14 Chicago Ave.

Domestic Battery Arrest: A 17-year-old juvenile from Oak Park was charged June 15 with domestic battery, police said. He was turned over to his legal guardian.

Residential Burglary: A television and a DVD player were taken June 15 from an apartment in the 0-100 block of Thomas Street. Estimated loss was $1,200.

Drug Possession: Michael Nicholson, 57, of Chicago, was charged June 15 with possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license after a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Pleasant Street, police said. Police responded to a call of a suspicious auto and in questioning Nicholson saw a white powdery substance in plain view. The material, which was field tested, was 1.7 grams of heroin, police said.

Criminal Damage: A 3-foot scratch was made June 15 in the passenger side of a 2001 Chrysler Sebring parked in the 00 block of Madison Street. Estimated damage was $300.

Theft: An unattended gym bag, containing $12, a driver’s license, Social Security card, wallet and clothing was taken June 15 from the weight room at the , 255 S. Marion St. Estimated loss was $82.

Theft: A locked BMX-style bicycle was taken June 15 from a home in the 700 block of South Elmwood Avenue. Estimated loss was $450.
