Oak Park Police Blotter: Thief Caught with Goods Outside OP Church

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Criminal Damage: A 96-gallon garbage can placed near a building in the 900 block of Ontario Street was set ablaze Nov. 22. Estimated damage was $50.

Retail Theft: A cup of Ramen noodle soup and a package of Oreo cookies were stolen Nov. 22 from the 7-11, 661 South Blvd. The offender fled on a bicycle with the items after being confronted by witnesses at the store. Estimated loss was $1.88.

Attempted Burglary: Mark Smith, 28, of Chicago, was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools Nov. 22 after a witness identified him as the subject who attempted to enter the rear window of an apartment in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue, police said. He was arrested in the alley in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard.

Theft: A Mezuzah nailed to the front door frame of an apartment in the 1100 block of South Taylor Avenue was stolen Nov. 22. Estimated loss was $60.

Burglary: An unsecured bicycle was stolen sometime between Nov. 17 and Nov. 22 from the common basement area of an apartment building in the 1100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. Entry was gained by pushing open the east basement window. Estimated loss was $150.

Outside Warrant: Trefor J. Delve, 44, of Chicago, was arrested Nov. 22 on an outstanding warrant out of Lake County for failure to appear in court, police said. He was apprehended in the 400 block of North Harlem Avenue.

Outside Warrant: Edgar Cornejo, 31, of Hinsdale, was arrested Nov. 22 on an outstanding warrant out of Cook County for driving on a suspended license, police said. He was apprehended in the 6200 block of Roosevelt Road.

Theft from Auto: A night parking permit was taken off the rear windshield of a 2005 Volkswagen Touareg parked in the 300 block of North Oak Park Avenue sometime between Nov. 19 and Nov. 20. Estimated loss was $95.

Theft from Auto: Four tires were stolen off a 2005 Acura RSX parked in a private space in the rear of a building in the 200 block of South Oak Park Avenue sometime between Nov. 20 and Nov. 21. Estimated loss was $800.

Criminal Damage: The passenger side service door of a 2005 Chevrolet van parked in the rear of a building in the 0-100 block of Lake Street was damaged and removed sometime between Nov. 19 and Nov. 22.

Retail Theft: Body wash and feminine hygiene products were stolen Nov. 21 at , 345 Madison St., by two women and one man. Estimated loss is unknown.

Theft Arrest: James A. Barksdale, 67, of Chicago, was charged with theft Nov. 19 after he was caught with small boxes and large bags of organic coffee and tea that he had taken from , 38 N. Austin Blvd, police said. Police arrested him on the south side of the church after staff positively identified the items, valued at $362, police said.

Outside Warrant: Andrew J. Madison, 34, of Indiana, was arrested Nov. 21 after a name check revealed he had an active warrant out of the Cook County Sheriff Department for failing to appear in court on charges of criminal trespass to real property, police said. He was apprehended in the 800 block of South East Avenue.
