Oak Park Police Blotter: Victim Startles Burglar in Bedroom

Ex-girlfriend gets mad; dog owner punches another; Chicago man arrested for berating CTA employee.

The following items are taken from daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft from Auto: A catalytic converter was taken sometime between Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 from underneath a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner parked in a village lot in the 0-100 block of Washington Boulevard. Estimated loss was $300.

Theft: A cell phone was stolen Oct. 12 from the backpack of a student during class at , 201 N. Scoville Ave. Estimated loss was $500.

Theft: An iPod was stolen Oct. 7 from a locked gym locker at Oak Park-River Forest High School, 201 N. Scoville Ave. Estimated loss was $300.

Theft from Auto: A catalytic converter was stolen Oct. 11 from underneath a 2010 Honda Element parked in the 400 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $2,500.

Theft: A locked 21-speed bicycle was stolen Oct. 14 from a rack in the 500 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $75.

Residential Burglary: An iPod, laptop, an Xbox game, digital hard drive and a backpack were stolen Oct. 14 from an apartment in the 300 block of South Boulevard. Estimated loss was not available.

Theft: A cell phone was grabbed out of the hand of a 14-year-old sitting on a bench in the 700 block of Lake Street. The offender ran west on Lake and then north on to Oak Park Avenue, the victim told police. Estimated loss was $356.31.

Burglary to Auto: A video camera, a digital camera, sunglasses, a roadside emergency kit, duffel bag and $5 in change were stolen sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 from an unlocked 2010 Mazda Protégé parked in the driveway of a home in the 500 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $480.

Battery: One dog owner punched another in the face Oct. 15 as the latter man was attempting to separate his dog from the other’s while the canines were fighting. The incident took place as the two men were walking in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard.

Disorderly Conduct: Larry L. Bey, 33, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct after pounding on the windows and berating the employee inside of the CTA Green Line booth at the Oak Park Avenue stop, police said.

Outside Warrant: Frank A. Laudicina, 29, of Chicago, was arrested Oct. 15 on an active warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections for assault, police said. An Oak Park officer recognized him and took him into custody as he was leaving the CTA Blue Line stop on South Austin Boulevard.

Theft Arrest: Willie L. Russell, 45, of Chicago, was charged Oct. 16 with felony retail theft after failing to put cash receipts from sales into the cash register at A.P. Deli, 6321 North Ave., police said.

Theft: An unlocked and unattended bicycle was stolen sometime between Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 from the rear yard of a home in the 800 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. Estimated loss was $400.

Burglary to Garage: A bicycle was stolen Oct. 15 from the garage of a home in the 800 block of South Humphrey. Shortly after 1 p.m., a resident of that block saw two men in the alley behind and between neighbors’ garages. The resident called police who determined that one of the garages had been entered by force and that offenders had fled the scene with the bicycle.

Auto Theft: A 1999 Dodge Caravan parked in front of a home in the 500 block of South Humphrey Avenue was stolen Oct. 16. Estimated loss was $2,000.

Criminal Damage: Temika N. Williams, 31, of Oak Park, was charged with criminal damage to property after she smashed the windshield and passenger side windows and dented the hood of her ex-boyfriend’s 2000 Chevrolet Express van with a club, police said. The vehicle was parked in the 1400 block of North Austin Boulevard. Estimated damage was more than $1,000.
