Oak Park Police Blotter: Woman Spits on Cop After Arrest

Oak Park police reports, July 21 - July 25, first watch.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25

Robbery

A backpack containing a cell phone, flat iron, gym shoes, wallet and cash was stolen from a victim after one man demanded the item while his accomplice stood by. The incident took place in the 900 block of Ontario Street. Estimated loss was $1,180.

Criminal Trespass to Real Property

Calvin Shumate, 53, of Chicago was charged with criminal trespass to real property after the owner of a home in the 600 block of North Grove Avenue saw him in her garage for a period of time and called police, police said.

Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrest

Tanya A. Michiels, 38, of Lombard was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance after she was seen by police passing a substance on to another person at Austin Boulevard and Madison Street, police said. Confiscated were two bags each containing .6 grams of a white powdery substance, field tested to be heroin,

Aggravated Battery Arrest

Joann J. Harris, 21, of Oak Park was charged with aggravated battery after spitting in the face of a policeman as she was brought in to the station on  charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property, police said.

Theft

An unsecured and unattended mountain bike was stolen from a rack in the 100 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $80.

JULY 20 – JULY 24

Residential Burglary

An HP laptop computer docking station was stolen from a home in the 1400 block of North Harlem Avenue. Entry was gained by pushing out the window air-conditioning unit. Estimated loss was $3,500.

MONDAY, JULY 23

Auto Theft

A 2001 Volvo S70, with keys in the ignition, was stolen from the parking lot in the 200 block of Marion Street. Estimated loss was $2,000.

Theft

An unlocked bicycle was stolen from a rack in the 600 block of South Boulevard. Estimated loss was $150.

Retail Theft

Toothpaste and deodorant were stolen from Walgreens, when a male concealed the items inside a bag and left the store. Estimated loss was $13.48.

JULY 22 – JULY 23

Burglary to Auto

A basketball, backpack, audio book and miscellaneous CDs were stolen from a closed, but unlocked 1998 Honda Civic parked in the 500 block of Washington Boulevard. The center console also was ransacked. Estimated loss was $540.

JULY 21 – JULY 22

Burglary to Auto

About $4 in change was stolen from an unlocked 1998 Volvo S70 parked in the rear of a building in the 600 block of Clinton Avenue. The interior also was ransacked.

SUNDAY, JULY 22

Burglary

A canvass grocery bag and a broom were stolen from the open garage of a home in the 700 block of South Taylor Avenue. Estimated loss was $10.

Criminal Trespass to Land Arrest

Justin B. Sanciel-Wynn, 18, of Maywood was charged with criminal trespass to land and disorderly conduct after he shot off a BB gun in Longfellow Park and was asked to leave by someone was alarmed and disturbed by his behavior, police said.

Criminal Damage to Property

A window on the south side of a building in the 300 block of Forest Avenue was broken with a rock. Estimated damage was $500.

JULY 21 – JULY 22

Burglary to Auto

A key fob was taken from an unlocked Mazda MPV parked in the driveway of a home in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue. The item was located in the driver’s side door arm rest. Estimated loss was $100.

Burglary to Auto

Money, two flashlights and a pair of sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked 1987 Jeep parked in the rear of a building in the 700 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $151.

Theft

A 5-foot section of garden hose was stolen from the front yard of a home in the 100 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $5.

SATURDAY, JULY 21

Outside Warrant Arrest

Randy J. Smith, 39, of Schaumburg was arrested on an outside warrant out of Schaumburg for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license, police said. He was apprehended in the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard.

Theft

A cell phone and $25 were stolen from a purse located in the employee break room of a business in the 700 block of Lake Street. Estimated loss was $105.

Theft

An unlocked bicycle was stolen from the sidewalk on the north side of a building in the 1100 block of South Euclid Avenue. Estimated loss was $100.

Criminal Damage to Property

Someone used a landscaping brick to dent the front passenger door, scratch the hood and crack the front windshield on a 1997 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 1100 block of Gunderson Avenue. Estimated damage was $1,000.

DUI Arrest

Emmanuel F. Malone, 23, of Chicago was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, having no proof of insurance and driving on a sidewalk, police said. Police found Malone asleep in his car, which was up on a sidewalk in the 800 block of Pleasant Street.

Burglary

A mountain bicycle was stolen from the garage of a home in the 700 block of Lyman Avenue. Entry was gained by forcing open the service door. Estimated loss was $50.

Theft

An unsecured and unattended mountain bike was stolen from the backyard of a home in the 500 block of Highland Avenue. Estimated loss was $300.
