Oak Park Police Blotter: Would-Be Snacker Nabbed with His Haul

The following information was supplied by the Oak Park Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Theft: The center piece from the water fountain in front of US Bank, 6011 North Ave., was unscrewed and stolen sometime between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23. The item, made of copper and brass, was valued at $1,000.

Warrant Arrest: Kenyatta McCoy, 23, of Chicago, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Oak Park Feb. 27 for drunken driving, police said. Officers picked up McCoy as he was being released from the Sheridan Correctional Center.

Theft from Auto: A catalytic converter was stolen sometime between Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 from underneath a 2004 Lexus RX330 parked in a garage in the 1100 block of Ontario Street. Estimated loss was $1,900.

Theft from Auto: An AM/FM/CD stereo was stolen sometime between Feb. 25 and Feb. 27 from a 1997 Honda Accord parked in the rear of a home in the 100 block of North Cuyler Avenue. Entry was gained by using a pry tool on the driver’s door. Estimated loss was $250.

Theft: A purse containing cash and miscellaneous identification cards was stolen Feb. 27 from the jacket pocket of a customer at Deals, 6045 North Ave.  Estimated loss was $52.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit was stolen Feb. 27 from a 2003 Toyota Prius parked in the 1100 block of North Lombard Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the front driver’s side window and removing the it from the windshield. Estimated damage and loss were $250.

Retail Theft: Blake Grampton, 21, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft Feb. 27 after he attempted to take two 8-ounce Home Run Pizzas and a 24-ounce package of Habanero Mango chicken wings from Dominick’s Finer Foods, 259 Lake St. The items were valued at $15.33.

Retail Theft: An iPhone was stolen sometime between Feb. 18 and Feb. 21 from the display at the ATT Store, 425 N. Harlem Ave. Estimated loss was $600.

Residential Burglary: A laptop and a flat screen television set were stolen Feb. 28 from a home in the 100 block of South Taylor Avenue. Entry was gained by removing the screen from the rear bathroom window. The residence was ransacked as well. A witness saw two men carting off the television to the Taylor/Lombard alley. Estimated loss was $1,600.

Theft: Two pairs of earrings and a necklace were stolen sometime between Feb. 20 and Feb. 25 from a home in the 400 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry to the home. Estimated loss was $1,750.

Residential Burglary: A home in the 700 block of Columbian Avenue was ransacked but nothing was taken Feb. 28 when someone used a pry tool on the rear door to break the door window. Estimated damage was $100.
