Oak Park, River Forest Schools Cancel Tuesday Classes

Oak Park Elementary School District 97, River Forest School District 90 and Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 have canceled classes and all activities for the second day in a row due to dangerously low temperatures.

According to a message from District 97, the National Weather Service is forecasting dangerously frigid weather and hazardous travel conditions for Tuesday.

The District 97 Board of Education meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m., however, in the administration building will proceed as scheduled.

According to the National Weather Service Wind Chill Chart, it will take approximately 10 minutes for frostbite to set in if the temperatures on Tuesday morning reach the predicted 40 degrees below zero with the wind chill.

"With this in mind, we strongly recommend you avoid spending extended time outside if possible," the message reads.

Barring any additional travel challenges or inclement weather, the district expects classes to resume Wednesday, Jan. 29.
