Oak Park YMCA Could Win $25K for Energy Efficiency Participation

The Nicor Gas program could award up to $25,000, but the specific amount depends on participation of residents here.

The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program announced it will award up to $25,000 to the YWCA Evanston/North Shore in Evanston and the West Cook YMCA in Oak Park at the conclusion of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program Community Challenge.

The specific amount will be determined by the participation of local residents.

The Community Challenge is a new initiative to help foster energy efficiency awareness and action within two local communities. The Challenge began Feb. 1 and runs through April 30,

During that period, each homeowner or business that participates in select Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Programs earns $50 toward their community’s final prize. Each community can earn up to $25,000 through the challenge.

Improving the energy efficiency of homes and businesses means less energy is required to maintain a comfortable environment, and reducing energy consumption can help save money.

“From simple energy saving tips to substantial financial rebates, the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program provides homeowners and businesses across Illinois with the opportunity to save energy and money,” said Beth Reese, president of Nicor Gas. “We are pleased that customers will have the unique opportunity to support local non-profit organizations while making their own homes and businesses more energy efficient.”

Once the final prize amounts are calculated and awarded after the April 30 conclusion of the program, each community non-profit will work with the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program to apply the funds toward efficiency projects and improvements at their facility. This will allow the facility to be more energy efficient and provide the organization with the chance to save financial resources.

“This means, as a result of Oak Park community members saving energy in their own homes and businesses, we can work toward energy efficiency in our building," West Cook YMCA President Jan Pate said. "This will benefit our members and our resident members, as well as the overall energy conservation efforts in Oak Park.

"We hope the community will participate in the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program Community Challenge. We're proud to be considered a good neighbor and worthy of this level of support.”
