While investigating a report of retail theft, Oak Park police came across a man who they said ran from them and then cut his throat with a broken bottle.

A man was taken to Loyola Hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a police chase that ended with the man taking a broken bottle to his throat, Oak Park police said.

The man threw his bag away and kept running from police, who eventually caught up to him. Police said the man broke a bottle and held onto one piece, though it wasn't immediately clear if he was threatening officers or harm to himself.

He then cut his throat with the broken bottle, though not enough to put his life in danger, police said. The man was taken into custody and brought to Loyola for treatment.
