Police: River Forest Purse Snatcher Caught

Robbery in nearby Bellwood leads to arrest.

A Maywood teen was charged with robbery after stealing a River Forest woman's purse, police said.

The attacker, a 17-year-old male, was charged with felony robbery.  Patch is withholding his name because of his age. 

The attack took place Tuesday around 1:45 p.m., when police said a pair of teens approached the 78-year-old victim and snagged her purse as she walked away from the , 7777 Lake St.

Several hours later, police in Bellwood arrested a pair of teens on robbery charges.

Authorities said the pair matched the description of the River Forest attack, and the 17-year-old was charged while in custody of Bellwood police.

River Forest Police Sgt. Michael Thornley said the pair may have been spotted recently outside the MB Bank, 7727 Lake St. in River Forest and outside another bank in Oak Park. 

"What they were doing is going to banks in the area and targeting people of opportunity," Thornley said.
