Oak Park Police Blotter: Retail Thefts, Burglaries Reported

Dominick's targeted in several theft attempts.

The following items are taken from daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurs, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Garage burglary: A car battery valued at $75 was stolen from a car parked in an unlocked garage in the 400 block of South Euclid Avenue on Saturday Dec. 11.

Retail theft: Benito Figueroa, 37, 2741 N. Sawyer Ave. in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft on Saturday Dec. 11 after he was caught stealing from , 259 Lake St., police said.

Burglary: A GPS navigation unit valued at $270 was stolen from an unlocked car parked in an alley in the 200 block of Washington Boulevard sometime around Friday Dec. 10.

Burglary: A wallet containing $4 cash and various ID and credit cards was stolen sometime around Friday Dec. 10 from an unlocked car parked in the 400 block of Clinton Street.

Vehicle theft: A silver 2002 Honda Accord parked in the 300 block of Clinton Street was stolen around Friday Dec. 10, shortly after cash and a car key was stolen during a break-in to a car parked nearby.

Criminal damage: A brick was tossed through a window at Grace Episcopal Church, 924 Lake St., sometime around Friday Dec. 10, causing an estimated $3,300 in damage to a church window, a stained glass window and marble baptismal.

Battery: Alisha Nichols, 20, 200 Madison St., was charged with battery after a Friday Dec. 10 incident at 940 Madison St., police said.

Criminal damage: Toby Helmers, 47, 319 Wesley Ave., was charged with criminal damage to property on Friday Dec. 10, police said.

Residential burglary: Televisions, computers, an mp3 player and jewelry valued at a combined $4,230 was stolen during a Friday Dec. 10 break-in to a home in the 500 block of South Scoville Avenue.

Theft: A wallet containing various forms of ID and an Apple iPod were stolen Friday, Dec. 10 from a gym locker at , 201 N. Scoville Ave.

Retail theft: Lashon Hoskins, 30, was charged with retail theft on Friday Dec. 10 after he was caught stealing from Dominick's Finer Foods, 259 Lake St., police said.

Theft: A UPS package was stolen from the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of Forest Avenue on Friday Dec. 10.

Burglary: A GPS navigation unit was stolen during a Thursday, Dec. 9 break-in to a 2008 Hyundai Sonata parked in the 1100 block of Ontario Street.

Burglary: A GPS navigation unit was stolen during a Thursday Dec. 9 break-in to a 2002 BMW SUV parked in the 200 block of Lake Street.

Criminal damage: The rear windshield of a Ford van parked in the 1100 block of South East Avenue was smashed on Dec. 1 and Thursday Dec. 9.

Retail theft: James Rhodes, 23, 1045 N. Monitor Ave. in Chicago, was charged with retail theft and a warrant  for driving with a suspended license after he was caught stealing from Dominick's Finer Foods, 259, Lake St., on Thursday Dec. 9, police said.

Theft: An estimated $7,000 in copper piping was stolen from a building in the 1300 block of Austin Boulevard sometime between Nov. 24 and Thursday Dec. 9.

Drug possession: Brian Schnackel, 30, of Aurora, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, drunken driving and traffic violations after a Thursday Dec. 9 traffic stop in the 600 block of South Maple Avenue, police said.

Residential burglary: A flat screen television, jewelry and various electronics were stolen during a Thursday, Dec. 9 break-in to a home in the 1100 block of Rossell Avenue.

Criminal damage: The front right window of a 200 Ford Explorer parked in the 900 block of North Marion Street was stolen sometime around Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Residential burglary: Two televisions and an iPod were stolen during a Wednesday, Dec. 8 break-in to an apartment in the 100 block of South Austin Boulevard.

Retail theft: Luis Santiago, 40, was charged with theft after he caught stealing from Dominick's Finer Foods, 259 Lake St. on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Theft: A set of keys were stolen from a locker at the West Cook YMCA, 255 S. Marion St. on Dec. 7.

Retail theft: A Chicago juvenile was charged with retail theft after he was caught stealing from Dominick's Finer Foods, 259, Lake St., on Dec. 7, police said.

Burglary: A briefcase containing medical supplies was stolen during a Dec. 6 break-in to a 2008 BMW parked in the 1100 block of North Boulevard.

Burglary: A car stereo was stolen during  a Dec. 6 break-in to a car a parked in the 1200 block of Rossell Avenue.

Criminal damage: The rear windshield of a car parked in the 900 block of North Boulevard was broken Dec. 6.

Burglary: A men's bicycle and a bag of socks were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 500 block of South Oak Park Avenue sometime around Dec. 5.

Domestic battery: Alice Boertje, 35, 140 S. Harvey Ave., was charged with domestic battery after a Dec. 5 incident at her residence, police said.
