River Forest Police Blotter: Reeler Fished Out After Traffic Stop

Two cars vandalized, cyclist egged, thief bagged at Jewel.

The following items are taken from the River Forest daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Traffic Arrest: A 16-year-old female from Brookfield was charged Sept. 6 with driving without a license, driving without insurance and making an improper turn after she struck a car leaving a driveway in the 7500 block of Lake Street, police said.

Battery: An egg was thrown Sept. 5 at a bicyclist who was riding in the area of Park Avenue and Greenfield Street. The suspect drove South on Park in a yellow mid-sized car.

Criminal Damage: Two cars parked in the 1500 block of Ashland Avenue were vandalized less than 24 hours apart. The first took place Sept. 4 after an obscenity was keyed into the driver’s side door and the side panel was scratched on a 2009 Toyota Prius. The second act took place Sept. 5 when an obscenity was carved into the paint and the driver's side of a 2001 Ford Focus and was scratched.

Criminal Trespass: Joseph Nunn, 21, of Chicago, was charged Sept. 4 with criminal trespass after being warned several months ago to stay away from , 7900 Division St., police said.

Criminal Damage: Approximately three dozen eggs were thrown Sept. 4 at a home in the 1300 block of Monroe Avenue.

Outside Warrant: Jose Garcia, 40, of North Riverside, was arrested Sept. 2 on an outstanding warrant out of LaSalle County for failing to appear in court on a charge of for fishing without a license, police said. He was arrested after police pulled him over in the 7900 block of Chicago Avenue after his truck nearly hit another vehicle two blocks away, police said.

Theft: An iPhone was taken Sept. 1 from a locker at , 7574 Division St.

Outside Warrant: Kyle W. Young, 42, of Broadview, was arrested Sept. 1 on an outstanding warrant out of Stephenson County for driving on a suspended license, police said. The arrest took place after a traffic stop in the area of Chicago Avenue and William Street.

Theft: Two sets of soccer goals were taken sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 31 from behind the maintenance building of the , 7811 W. Lake St. Estimated loss was $2,000.

Theft: An iPod Touch was taken Aug. 30 from the dormitory room of a student at , 7400 Augusta Ave. Estimated loss was under $500.

Retail Theft: James Marshall, 51 of Chicago, was charged Aug. 30 with felony retail theft after attempting to take four bottles of booze valued at under $150 from , 7525 W. Lake St., police said. Authorities said Marshall had stuffed his pockets with plastic bags and used them to steal two bottles of gin and two bottles of whiskey.

Arrest: Rashad Mitchell, 23, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 30 with driving on a suspended license and driving on a suspended registration, police said. Mitchell was seen in the 7500 block of North Avenue driving a car with only one headlight. He eventually was apprehended in the area of North Avenue and Marion Street in Oak Park.

Theft: A bicycle was taken Aug. 30 from the back porch of a building in the 1100 block of North Harlem Avenue. Estimated loss was $20.

Traffic Arrest: Oscar Serrano, 36, of Cicero, was charged with driving on an invalid license and other traffic violations after an Aug. 29 traffic stop in 7300 block of North Avenue, where police said he was towing an vehicle illegally.
