Riverside Teen Charged With Armed Robbery in Oak Park

Oak Park police reports, March 25.

MONDAY, MARCH 25

Attempted Robbery

A woman walking south on Oak Park Avenue at 6 p.m. was pushed from behind by a man who tried to steal her iPhone. The offender was unable to and then fled northbound on Oak Park Avenue. He's described as a man in his 20s, about 5-foot-9 with a thin build and wearing a dark hoodie, dark jeans and dark gym shoes. 

Teen Charged With Armed Robbery

A 16-year-old Riverside juvenile displayed a handgun to a woman in the 900 block of S. Austin at 1:50 p.m. and demanded her purse. The victim gave up her purse and the offender fled on foot.

Police found a jacket and loaded gun in the back yard of a building in the in the 0-100 block of Garfield. The victim's purse was found in a garage in the same block. At 6:18 p.m., a resident in that block saw a person enter the same garage, and he was later identified as the offender. He was charged as an adult with armed robbery and also charged with criminal trespass. 

Car Burglary

Someone stole cash from an unlocked car in the 100 block of N. Kenilworth between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The offender also used a pry tool to pull the ignition cylinder. The estimated damage is unknown.

Garage Burglary

Someone used hedge cutters to try to steal a car from a garage in the 1000 block of Mapleton between 4 p.m. and 10:37 p.m. The offender was unsuccessful but stole cash from the car. The estimated loss and damaged is $305.
