SEEKING SOURCES: Post-Fireworks Beating

Witnesses say beating leaves man hospitalized after grand finale at OPRF.

Update, 11:28 a.m. Oak Park Police Department spokesman Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds issued a statement accompanying the daily police report e-mail blast to local media outlets. It reads: "We are investigating a battery that occurred around 10pm on 04 July 11, there was one person transported to the hospital. I have no further information at this time, we are still conducting interviews."

Multiple witnesses have reported to Oak Park-River Forest Patch a "severe beating" that took place late Monday at Lake Street and Ridgeland Avenue shortly after the fireworks finale at Oak Park-River Forest High School.

According to one e-mailer claiming to be eyewitness to the incident, a man was walking "and cursing loudly" then was "apparently severely beaten & stomped by several young men."

"I never saw the victim move, even after the paramedics got him in the ambulance," the e-mailer wrote.

Calls to the on Tuesday morning seeking more information about the incident weren't immediately returned.

A second account, from a woman who also said she was an eyewitness, again indicates the man was hospitalized.

"One of the youths had apparently gotten him down and stomped on his head," wrote the e-mailer. "It was very upsetting to see."
