Resident Drives Robbers to Bank at Gunpoint, Piggy Bank Stolen: Oak Park Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, Aug. 11-Sept. 19.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 19

Bike Stolen

Police received a report of a lime green Giant bike that was stolen in the 1100 block of south Harvey at 10:26 a.m. The bike was left unattended in the rear yard of the victim's home. The loss was estimated at $300.

Traffic Stop Leads to Warrant Arrest

Mitchell B. Davis, 42, of the 0-100 block of Hyde Park Avenue in Bellwood was stopped for an unknown traffic violation in the 6800 block of west Roosevelt Road at about 12 a.m. Further investigation by police revealed that Davis had an active arrest warrant from Hodgkins Police Department for driving with a suspended license. Oak Park police arrested Davis, who is being held in lieu of bond.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 18

Garage Burglary

An Oak Park resident in the 800 block of Hayes reported to police at 7 a.m. that his garage had been burglarized overnight. A silver Trek Hybrid bike was stolen worth an estimated $800.

Juvenile Arrested

A juvenile Oak Park resident was arrested by Oak Park police in the 200 block of south Grove Avenue at about 7:33 p.m. and charged with theft. He was later processed and released. No other information was available from police.

Battery Arrest

Police reported that Lavell C. Robinson, 19, of the 200 block of Flournoy Avenue and Christian L. James, 18, of the 100 block of north Humphrey Avenue was arrested and charged with battery in the 400 block of south Euclid Avenue at about 4:05 p.m. Both were issued a court date of Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. and released on bond.

Chicago Man Arrested for Burglary

Police reported that Marquell M. Boyd, 23, of the 1400 block of north Austin Boulevard in Chicago was arrested and charged with residential burglary in the 1600 block of north Moody in Chicago at about 4 p.m. for a burglary that occurred on the 1100 block of north Austin Boulevard. Boyd was issued a court date of Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. and is being held with no bond.

Armed Robbery on Lake Street

An Oak Park resident reported to police that they were robbed at gunpoint by two women in the 200 block of Lake Street at 2:12 p.m. The first robber was described as a woman, black, of about 40 years of age with black hair in braids. She was wearing a blue jean jacket, a beige skirt and a baseball cap. She was with a second woman described as black, of about 50 years of age, weighing 160 pounds with black hair. She was wearing a black jacket, black pants and a red, white and blue shirt.

The robbers approached the victim in a parking lot in the 200 block of Lake Street, showed a handgun and told the victim to get into her car and drive them to her bank. The victim drove the women to her bank and withdrew $3000 and then drove the robbers to Euclid Avenue, just north of Lake Street where they fled the victim's car headed east on Lake Street.

Purse Stolen From Shopping Cart

A purse was stolen out of a shopping cart in the 400 block of Madison Street, police learned at 2:49 p.m. The purse contained credit cards, keys, cash a green card and a social security card, the victim told police. The total loss was estimated at $695.

Attempted Burglary Unsuccessful

An Oak Park resident told police at 11:30 a.m. that someone attempted to enter their home in the 600 block of north Marion Avenue. The victim said the doorframe was broken when someone attempted to force open the interior front door of their home. No entry was gained, but the damage was estimated at $100.

MONDAY, SEPT. 17

Arrested on Warrant

Oak Park police arrested Brandon T. Myers, 36, of the 500 block of Fifth Avenue in Maywood on an active DuPage County Warrant for a traffic violation. Myers was processed and released after posting bond.

Retail Theft Arrest

Police charged Crystal L. Stephens, 25, of the 1500 block of north Kolin in Chicago with retail theft at about 7:31 p.m. at Dominick's, in the 200 block of Lake Street. Stephens was being held in lieu of bond.

Shoes Stolen From Car

A Chicago resident reported to police that someone entered their car between 6:47 p.m. and 6:49 p.m. in the 300 block of Madison Street and stole a bag that contained a pair of women's shoes. The total loss was estimated at $72.

Garage Burgled

An Oak Park resident in the 100 block of south Ridgeland Avenue told police that between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. someone entered their garage through a side service door and stole a lawnmower worth $205.

GPS Stolen

An Oak Park resident parked in a parking garage on the 100 block of Forest Avenue told police that between 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 and 6 p.m. on Sept. 17, someone stole a GPS device and a Apple cable from their car. The burglar entered the vehicle by cutting through the vinyl top of the car's convertible roof. The total loss was estimated at $144.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 16

Vehicle Burglary

An Oak Park resident told police their car was burglarized in the 900 block of Pleasant Avenue between 1 p.m. on Sept. 16 and 11 a.m. on Sept. 18. No loss was reported, but the interior and the trunk were "ransacked," police said.

Piggy Bank Robbed

Police learned of a stolen piggy bank in the 400 block of south Euclid. The victim believed the bank was stolen between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The burglar entered the victim's home through an unlocked bedroom window on the south side of the building. The bank contained $70 and the total loss was estimated at $80.

SATURDAY, AUG. 11

Passport and More Stolen From Home Office

Police were told at 9 a.m. that a passport, green card and social security card were stolen from a home office in the 500 block of south Clarence Avenue. The total loss was estimated at $695.
