Teens Charged in River Forest Burglary

Police find intruders hiding in a River Forest basement with goods in their backpacks. Due to the nature of the crime, the juvenile may be charged as an adult, police say.

Two teens are being held in connection to a burglary in the 7200 block of Quick Avenue in River Forest, police said Wednesday.

According to a news release from the River Forest Police Department, police responded to a burglar alarm at the home around 1:10 a.m. and noticed someone had damaged the door, but didn't find anyone in the area.

While River Forest detectives do not believe Graham and the juvenile are responsible for an increase in daytime burglaries during the month of July, police reminded residents to continue to lock their doors, garages and cars, and contact police about suspicious activity.

“We have investigated cases where the offender will test the security of the home and observe  the police response, only to come back later to commit a crime," River Forest Police Chief Gregory Weiss said in a statement.

"If someone comes to your home and gives you a reason for knocking or ringing your doorbell that seems questionable, this may be one of those tests, in police parlance, we call it 'casing the joint.'  If this happens to you, please call the River Forest police department as this may be part of an emerging pattern.”

Graham and the juvenile both face residential burglary charges, and due to the nature of the crime, the juvenile in this case may be charged as an adult, police said. They will appear Aug. 8 for a preliminary hearing at the Maybrook Courthouse.
