Thief Scams Resident 'Checking Water Pressure': Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, Feb. 28-March 1.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Warrant Arrest

Aaron M. Ollins, of the 600 block of Marengo in Forest Park, was stopped by police for running a red light in the 1100 block of Lake Street. Police discovered he had an active warrant for his arrest for aggravated reckless driving. 

Purse Stolen

A black Kate Spade purse valued at $60 was stolen from a car parked at the Shell gas station in the 400 block of Madison Street. The burglary occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 6:12 p.m.

Attempted Robbery

Police said a man hit someone from behind while trying to steal a phone from the victim's hands in the 600 block of Lake Street. The offender didn't get the phone and fled on foot. Police described him as a 15-year-old black male, about 5-foot-6, 130 pounds and wearing a blue hoody and tan coat. 

DUI Accident

DeSean Mobley, 20, of the 700 block of Randolph in Oak Park, was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. Police said he was involved in an accident near Division and Harlem. Mobley was held in lieu of bond.

THURSDAY, FEB. 28

Car Burglary

A car parked in the 600 block of S. Taylor was broken into between 11:45 p.m. Feb. 27 and 7:50 a.m. Feb. 28. A Kenwood radio/CD player, valued at $500, was taken, as was $5 in coins. 

iPod Stolen

A garage in the 400 block of N. Marion was broken into when someone forced open the side door. Once inside, the burglar broke the passenger's window of a locked car and stole an 80-gigabyte iPod valued at $300. The burglary occurred between 10 p.m. Feb. 27 and 5 p.m. Feb. 28.

Thief Scams Resident

Shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 28, a man robbed a home in the 1000 block of Wisconsin after claiming to be someone who needed to check the water pressure on the resident's home. 

The victim let the man inside but quickly became suspicious and said he was calling the police. The man fled the home, but the victim found that a bedroom was already ransacked. A silver watch, two envelopes containing $450 and two plastic containers with $500 in change were stolen. 

Police described the offender as a man in his 20s, about 5-foot-5 and 140 pounds, with black hair and a dark blue jacket.

It's not know which direction the man ran. 

Home Burglarized

About $1,174 in items were stolen from a home in the 400 block of S. Ridgeland after someone entered an unlocked door between 3 p.m. Feb. 25 and 2 p.m. Feb. 28. Items stolen included a laptop with a carrying bag, an MP3 player, jewelry, basketball shoes and a watch.
