Third Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder for Attack at Ultra Foods Lot

Carol Mix, picked up late last month in Iowa, also charged with aggravated battery to a senior.

The last suspect in the severe beating of a senior citizen outside of Ultra Foods last year has been charged with attempted murder and battery to a senior citizen, Forest Park police said Monday.

Carol Mix, 62, of Maywood, will appear for a hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Maybrook Court. Bail has been set at $50,000.

According to police, Mix first fled to Iowa and then Wisconsin and back to Iowa where she had been arrested in Waterloo in early November and held in Blackhawk County Jail.

On Nov. 27, Forest Park police received word that she waived extradition and the next day was brought back to Illinois, authorities said.

Mix was positively identified in a line-up by the victim; charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a senior citizen were lodged on Friday, Forest Park police said.

According to police, three people—two men and a woman—stalked the victim now 73, of Oak Park, while she was shopping at Ultra Foods, 7250 Roosevelt Rd.

Police said they followed her to the car and attempted to steal her purse as she was putting her groceries in the car.

When the victim resisted, one of the men knocked her to the ground, and then kicked and stomped on her head. The three fled. Forest Park paramedics came to the scene and took Sanders to Loyola University Medical Center, where she was treated for a fractured skull and a broken eye socket, according to ABC7 News.

Further investigation identified the three offenders as Kenny Hollyfield, 54 years old, Robert Mix 55 years old, both from Addison, and Carol Mix from Maywood.

Hollyfield and Robert Mix were taken into custody in late March 2011. Hollyfield was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated battery to a senior citizen, attempted first-degree murder and attempted robbery.
