Two Charged after 7-Eleven Armed Robbery

Two people were arrested on felony charges early Thursday after a botched armed robbery attempt at a River Forest convenience store.

The incident took place around 1:20 a.m. Thursday at the 7-Eleven store at Division Street and Harlem Avenue, where police said Kirby Wise and Stephany Powell entered the store and demanded cash from the register.

Wise used " a prop to pretend he was holding a weapon in order to gain compliance" from the store clerk, according to a news release. The pair ran out of the store and tried to enter a getaway car but were "almost immediately" confronted by police officers.

Wise, 38, of the 5700 block of W. North Ave. in Chicago and Powell, 50, of the 1700 block of N. Mason in Chicago, were charged with felony aggravated robbery, police said. Wise had already been on parole for a previous robbery charge during Thursday's holdup, police said.

Both are scheduled to appear at a bond hearing on Friday at the Maybrook courthouse.
