Victim IDs Attackers in River Forest Mugging

Gang members charged in street robbery, police said.

Punch drunk, robbed and a little dizzy, the victim of a River Forest street robbery still had one key asset while under attack: good eyes.

And police say the victim's detailed description of his two attackers was enough to charge a pair of Maywood gang members in connection with the incident. According to police, here's how it happened:

The 23-year-old victim was walking in the 7300 block of Lake Street in River Forest on March 27 when he was approached by two men, beaten and robbed of the cash, jewelry and ID cards that fell from his sweatshirt during the scuffle.

On Tuesday, the man was walking at Ninth Avenue and Madison Street in Maywood around 9 p.m. when he strolled right past the pair who attacked him late last month.

The man immediately called 911, prompting Maywood cops came to the scene and arrest Darrell King, 20, and Darnell Swanigan, 20, both Maywood residents.

While in custody, both men admitted their involvement in Gangster Disciples gang.

King, of the 1400 block of South Second Avenue, and Swanigan, of the 1000 block of South 15th Avenue, were each charged with robbery. The charges were later upgraded to felony robbery charges, police said.
