Woman Robbed in Ruse to Cash Bonds, $4,750 in Electronics Taken in Burglary

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10

Ruse Burglary in Dominick's Parking Lot

Two women approached a woman in the Dominick's parking lot, identified themselves as "Tracy" and "Tammie White," and told her they found a box of savings bonds worth $150,000 that they wanted to split with her between 3 and 5 p.m. 

The woman gave them $176 to get the bonds cashed by a man the offenders knew, then drove them to her home and back to Dominick's, where the two women left with the woman's cash, police said. One woman was about 35-40, about 180 pounds with black hair in a bun and wearing a multi-colored flower dress. The second woman was about 50-55 with a heavy build and black hair with a red tint, police said.

2 Oak Park Men Caught for Property Damage on South

Two Oak Park men were charged with property damage and disorderly conduct after a woman caught them trying to cut her window screen in the 600 block of South Boulevard about 1:45 a.m. 

Police found the two offenders, Joshua Gorre, 23, of the 900 block of South Kenilworth Avenue in Oak Park and Christopher Diaz, 22, of the 100 block of North Kenilworth Avenue in Oak Park, in the 600 block of South Boulevard. They were charged with criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct and held on bond. 

$4,750 in Electronics Stolen in Burglary

Someone used a pry tool to break into a home in the 1100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue and stole a flat scren TV, four Blu-ray speakers, an iMac computer, an iTouch, an iPad and a laptop between 8:15 and 11:10 a.m. The total estimated loss is $4,750, police said. 

Break-in on Pleasant

Someone stole a gym bag, a wallet and clothes from an unlocked car in the 0-100 block of Pleasant Street between 9 and 10:25 a.m. The total estimated loss is $400, police said. 

Burglary Attempt on Lyman

A man was confronted by a resident after he broke into a home in the 1100 block of Lyman Avenue about 9:45 a.m. When the victim said, "What are you doing here?" the offender ran out the back door, police said. Nothing was reported stolen.

Backpack Stolen

Someone stole a backpack from a computer room at the Oak Park Public Library and left it in some bushes in Scoville Park between 7 and 7:35 p.m. The only thing stolen was the victim's ID, police said. 

Bike Stolen

Someone stole a $245 bike from a rack in the 100 block of North Marion Street between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9

Man Steals Woman's Purse in Alley

A man in his 20s approached a female victim from behind in an alley in the 6200 block of Roosevelt Road and stole her purse about 3:45 p.m. The offender was last seen running east in the alley. The total estimated loss is $130, police said.
