Driving in Oak Park: Your Picks for the Worst Intersections

We asked readers to name the worst intersections in Oak Park. Add your picks for the most dangerous intersections—for cars or bikes—to our interactive map.

We asked readers on Facebook this week to tell us the worst intersections in Oak Park.

With your comments, we started the above map that you can help us populate it with your picks.

Van Buren Street at Oak Park Avenue and Austin Boulevard at Harrison Street and I-290 were among the dicier spots in Oak Park. But while there are dangerous roads, readers said there are some drivers and bikers out there that need to get their act together.

One reader said: "Lack of bicycle-savvy on the part of cyclists and drivers is the biggest hazard I see on the OP roads... Adults should not ride bicycles on sidewalks, crossing at crosswalks as if pedestrians. Flipside: Drivers should not slow down to a near stop when passing a bicycle using the bike lane on Augusta, Chicago, etc."

Another said: "It's less about intersections and street design than it is about driver habits."

How to add your own contribution to the map:

You can add locations to this map—and because Oak Park is a bike-friendly community, we'd like to open this up to areas that raise concern about bike safety, too. Simply click the "Add" button in the upper-right corner of the map and enter the location of the problem area and a description of the problem. You can also drag the marker directly onto the map if you are not sure how to describe the intersection.

Where else is of concern? Tell us in the comments below.
