Candidates Can Start Getting Signatures for 2013 Park Board Race

Terms of two of the five commissioners will expire next year.

Oak Park residents interested in running for a seat on the Park District of Oak Park's board of commissioners can start circulating petitions to qualify for the spring ballot.

Nominating petitions are included in the 2013 Candidate Guide from the Illinois State Board of Elections. The guide includes all information and deadlines needed for people planning to run in the April 9, 2013 consolidated election. A copy is also available at the office of Oak Park village clerk, 123 Madison St.

The filing period for nominating petitions is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17 through Dec. 24 in the office of Village Clerk Teresa Powell.

Two terms will expire next year, Christine Graves and Marty Bracco, who currently serves as park board president.

The Park Board is made up of five non-paid commissioners elected to serve staggered four-year terms. The Board is a policy-making body that represents the parks and recreation interests of Oak Park citizens. Park Board meetings are generally held twice per month typically on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.

To run, a resident must be 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident in the community for at least one year prior to election.
