Comcast Project Clears Major Hurdle

Oak Park Plan Commission awaits final report, vote expected March 17

A controversial affordable housing project at the site of the long-vacant is a step closer to becoming reality.

After three months of hearings and lots of public input, Oak Park Plan Commission by a 6-2 vote recommended the project move forward, and the commission directed its attorney to draft a report reflecting that view.

The report — called the findings of fact — will also include 19 conditions Interfaith Housing Development Corp. and the Oak Park Housing Authority must meet before getting a certificate of occupancy.

Commissioners Gary Belenke and Mark Benson opposed the project, citing parking concerns in their decisions to not recommend it.

The commission will review and vote on the report on March 17; the Village Board will take it up in May.
