Illinois House - 78th District (Democratic)
36 of 37 Chicago Precincts Reporting; 54 of 55 Suburban Cook Co. Precincts Reporting
The race for the 7th District seat in the Illinois House was among the most hotly contested across the state, with leading candidates Emanuel "Chris" Welch and Rory Hoskins trading the lead throughout the night. At one point, Hoskins carried a razor thin 10-vote lead over Welch.

At 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, Welch had recaptured the lead, besting Hoskins by 37 votes. Will it hold?

Longtime U.S. Congressman and West Side political veteran Danny K. Davis easily handled a challenge from Jacques Conway, a former police officer and former member of the Oak Park River Forest Community High School 200 school board. Conway had said his voting record wouldn't differ that much from Davis', but that it was time for a change in the Seventh District.
Conway told Wednesday Journal that he was "disappointed at the apathy of the public...No matter what the numbers are, they're not real numbers. There are more people who didn't vote than who did vote. It's not a mandate from the public."

In River Forest, what initially appeared to be a tight race for Community Choice Aggregation quickly progressed in favor of the plan, which to River Forest residences and commercial properties. River Forest joined dozens of other suburban Cook County communities in OK'ing the plan during Tuesday's elections.
